Are they do large in diameter or too deep?

We've managed to get Morel Elate 6's into those doors so I know you can get some serious sized speakers in there with the aid of spacers and a lot of patience.:)

you will need to use an mdf spacer....or make custom pods.

Or cut into the plastic behind the speakers.

I fitted type X splits to my civic and had no problem with depth.
I did have to remove most of the plastic that the stock speaker sits in, but it wasn't to much trouble. I recomend trying to leave the top peice in and remove only the bottom as it will help keep water off your speakers.

I had to cut out some of the plastic behind my speakers to fit my 6.5 focals in. just make sure your windows dont hit your speakers if you do it thsi way.

or get a mdf spacer but you wont be able to use your stock speaker cover that way .

Hondas dont usually have a problem with depth...

My type X dropped straight into my Accord doors....and still had room for sound deadening behind those.
