hi ppl, originally had a standard d13c injected engine in my honda city ga2 1992 and wanted to replace it with the jdm d15b p08 vtec engine., once done i hooked it up to my standard auto box (with adaptor plates), however in drive (d) the box changes gears at 6000rpm and i want to keep it in the gear at least untill 7000rpm since vtec engages at 5000rpm to 7000rpm. so in reality i only get half vtec, then i have to wait until it kicks in again, its got a accelerator cable running from the box to the throttle. i was thinking maybe its got something to do with that., please keep in mind people.,i would love to switch over to manual, but due to the mods and trying to find a manual gearbox is next to impossible for this car.

im good with modifying engines., but when it comes to automatic boxs, i suk!

the major advantage of my setup is that the factory engine puts out 50kw, at 600kg which goes good at 600kg., similar to the d13b that comes in the civic eg. but with this 100kw sohc jdm vtec engine, at 600kg, the thing will fly, its like saying a 1200kg integra making 200kw will make the same power to weight ratio.

had this problem in my gf's auto civic
my mecanic just adjusted the acceleterator cable that goes to the G box. and it held gears all the way up to 7K
he said it was just loose

yes it's called the kick down cable.
you have to adjust the cable so there's more tension on it. it's done via undoing the nuts on the cable that goes to gearbox to the throttle body.

you will probably sacrifice shift quality for RPM range

the internal valve body in the AT is what would determains the default shift range. The throttle cable is not realy designed to vary the shift rpm but rather shift quality and kickdown from throttle responce, but messing with it can give you different results.

good luck

looking good

but if it was designed to shift at 7000rpm at full throttle wouldn't that be the kick down cable that needs to be adjusted?

D series autoboxes were probably designed to shift at 6000rpm at fulll throttle like most other auto boxes.

easiest way to adjust the kick down cable is adjust so that when u get ur hand and open the throttle to full. the kick down cable should have about 5mm - 10mm of free play when u move it , this is for normal gear change though.. but then if u do make the gear change at 7k , after the change wouldnt it just bog?
