I just installed a 2.25" catback straight to the cat without a hotdog and extractors.
my car is making a real farty noise, it never used to sound like this.. i dont like the sound of it..
my question is.. is it the extractors causing this farty noise? or is it because I have no hotdog and having just a straight pipe going through?
another thing.. how come i dont hear vtec engage anymore? it seems to be more of a gradual engagement, u dont hear that PRAH at 6k revs..
any help much appreciated, thanx

i've got the same thing, im using stock piping with a removed "hotdog" (reasonator) and a twinloop.
I have heard from egsi that it is the straight pipe doing the farting but i dont get it,
It tends to go away after the pipe warms up.
i dun hear anything weird :p

nah my farting sounds dosnt disapear. its real annoying.. i hate farty exhaust sounds.

im not sure bout the piping size but after i removed reasonator and changed to twinloop my vtec sound has become alot more obvious

yes put a resonator in will help heaps even if u put the stock resonator back in it will completely change the tone.
samething happened to me when i was doin mine. had it on with out the resonator 1st took it out for a drive.... couldent handle the fart sound, drove the car around the block and then right back into the work shop to hav him chop the stock resonator in. it gave me a deeper sound

I rkn 2 resonators sounds better. Nice and deep with no farting at all. They're like 75 bucks each i think

im looking at getting the mugen twin-loop system... will this have a farty noise... will i have to put in my old resonator? to reduce it or is the note fairly solid?

yeh putting in a resonator will reduce this 'farty' sound a lot and give u a deeper tone.
headers usually will make ur exaust system louder too

do any high performance companies make resonators? if your gona fork out alot of cash for a fuji or mugen system can u get a same brand resonator to put in or is the oem one good to splice in? and do they effect performance much?

those brands usually come with resonators with their catback systems. I dont think u can just buy the muffler, correct me if im wrong

I think the hotdog needs a bun! WTF is a hotdog (not the one you eat!!)? Do you mean the catalytic converter? If you changed the cat out for a straight pipe the sound will change. Same with the muffler. Go see a shop down there and get a resonator put on, and give the hotdog a bun. Condiments if it wants some too. As for brands try Magnaflow, Flowmasters, and Ebay.

LOL. We refer to resonators as hotdogs sometimes. As everyone else has said, add a resonator as it will reduce/remove that 'put put' noise.

do extractors change the sound at all or do they ONLY increase noise level?

Have never heard just headers installed. Normally people do a whole system in one shot. Maybe Ben or someone else will know.

nah i have a full exhaust from muffler to cat. the cat is just a standard cat. then its connected to extractors.
what are your thoughts on this regarding my previous question?
you think extractors only increase noise level or change the sound?
thanx

At a guess, I would think that you would have some change in sound (make the exhaust system sound deeper).

Anything you do to the exhaust will change power and sound. Not to many people notice the small changes. It's hard when you drive your car to hear it with out riding in a different car.

ok folks, problem is solved
took it to the shops, chucked in a resonator and no more farting. sounds the same as usual but a bit more grunt and noise from the extractors.
thanx peeps
