Well I just sold my EG too cheap :( But anyway I'm new to cars & was wondering which should I get.
I saw a sweet CRX 90 model at a dealer going for $6999 it's advertised in the Trading Post & a nice JDM EF3 Civic on Firesport.

Anyways would I be getting ripped off with the crx? My EG breeze had some issues & was annoyingly slow so I want something a little zippier but still cheap on fuel.
Also the CRX was a 2 seater, I thought they were 4 seaters...
Thanks

Get which ever one you want to get,
with the CRX if its AUDM model which it should be, motor would most probably be a SI $7000 is not worth that price
yes the 89-90 model CRX is a two seater,

the JDM EF3 would be the same as the CRX motor but jdm version would have an lsd gear box

either buy a cheap car and do an engine conversion?
or buy one thats alreayd been done or just a stocker,
b16a's are so far the most common and popular engine conversion.
the B16a is found in many civics starting from the EF3, EF9,EF8,EG6,EG9,CRX DELSOL,EK4, etc

Thanks for that. Well when I saw the crx it's pretty immaculate all stock, how much you rekon I should bargain it for?
I thought I saw a 4 seater crx last time. Thanks.

'stock' audm crx's can still sometimes sell for up to like 9-10k (jdm models 10-11k)
7k isn't too bad but i'm sure you could bargain them down.

if the car is still pretty good, offer him about 6k, thats a more reasonable price for the car, after all it is a 90 model car. about 17yr ish year old car

Agreed. It's stock. 7,000 is steep.

I got my first one, a Si with a front-end SIR body conversion for 5,000 Private sale.

Have you taken it for a test drive? Do you know who the previous owner is? Or at least age/gender?

Sometimes they can be a very rough guide to how the car will stack up in the future.

If log books are supplied, take a good look at them, see if it really does add up.

7,000 should get you an CRX in great shape, probably no accidents; nothing missing, smooth running engine, with reasonable Km's on the clock; pref. with a log book.

Also, Whilst AUDM CRX's are 2-seaters,
In Japan, their JDM CRX's are 4-seaters.

Thanks for that Bayani. But I think CRX's have gone up since you got yours as most of them on carsales are 6-10grand. Unless they are very over priced.
Thanks then, I'll check out both cars.

They both look like pretty nice cars. If the CRX has a B16A I would purshase that over the Civic Si. You can extract decent power from the D16A8 though.

Thanks for the input. I've decided to get the crx because it's stock & I like the shape better.
But at the moment there is a 90's Jap import (immaculate too) similar k's etc... but it's a 1.5 dual carbie model, it's around 7grand too.
I'm not too familiar with the carb engine so is it any good?
Thanks

mmm...Civic Si. They're still quick for 6K. u could probs get it down to 5k imo. considering the body looks crap, the shocks will die (ghetto lowering), no rego.

Check the Build Date at the front on the chaissis holding on to the right headlight.

Build Date: 'MMM DD
87-88 Ballade? (gen1)
88-89 is Gen 1 .
90-91 is Gen 2. si: d16a8 siR: b16a
92+ Gen 3.

As for engine differences:

You'll know. When you drive it, you'll hit 6.5k and Vtec takes over.
As by looking at it:

Engine Number for d16a8 is at the front of the engine, behind the fan. It will read: d16a8######..

Since you've decided to go CRX -- crxaustralia.com can provide you with some more information :P

Hey thanks for all your help. I Bought A CRX! Yay.
It's a JDM SI 88 with a D16a8, got it for $6100 from a dealer with rego, rwc & 2yr wrty which is wierd, they said I could goto any mechanic but I'd still have to pay?
Not the nicest crx but mechanicals were ok. Where do I go to get the back seat re-attached in Melb?
Also my jdm crx has the audm bump in the bonnet... wierd? It is definetly JDM though.

You have to get the seatbelts cut out of a JDM chassis, then welded to your audm chassis.
If you'd like the seats, I'll swap your compartment for my seats. But I'm in SYDNEY, so yeah... LOL

Also, JDM cars don't have d16a8. They have ZC.

Sounds to me like you've got a AUDM.

be more specific when your telling him where the numbers are located,

umm.. the code stamped on your block should read "ZC"
look at your rocket cover then abit lower on the left hand side of teh block,
either it reads, D16a8 with more numbers at the bottom or just ZC stamped

ive got a Zc, not really much diffrent then the SI just abit more power.. dont even think its noticeable
