hey people new to the forum. was looking at purchasing a new 09 or 08 VTi Auto, what are the going prices at the moment? not sure whether to look at the new 09 model or save a bit on a run-out 08 model. only extras i would be looking at would be alloy wheels.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Well dont give them the benifit of your sale. Go elsewhere.
I hate car dealers. My g/f paid 28k with no extras and by the time she paid for all the other b/s (warranty/roadside assist etc etc).. It was just under $31k.

lol why do u hate dealers?? what a stupid comment.

they sold ur mrs a car so what? she payed 31k, maybe ur mrs has the problem?

Because they try get you into a contract without the option of getting out and charge you more than the RRP of the car.. If she was charged a high price but the accurate price maybe it wouldnt have been as bad... The next morning i tryed to sort things out with the dealer but they couldnt care less, they had convinced my g/f to sign something which locked her in and they were grinning from ear to ear from the price they actually were getting. The manager was quiet rude on the phone...It was not explained properly to her and she thought she had 3 days cooling off when infact she was manipulated into signing the waiver to remove this cooling off period. The dealer who sold us the car was telling me how he ripped someone off with one of his peronal cars back in the day when he was trying to be friendly with me. Not really what i wanted to hear. Walking into the dealership i could see the manager flirting with one of the female staff who worked there, this made it look very unproffessional to me also.

I dont like to rip people off personally, they do. To put it simply, this is why i dislike them. Maybe i'm stereotyping here but i dont care. Until i have a better experience with a car dealer this is how i will think of them... leech's.
It seems that being a dealer is like survival of the fittest, you gotta rip people off to get anywhere.

My mrs was silly to go in there without looking more into things first, yes. I don't doubt this at all and was equally frustrated at her. The way they deal with people who dont have much confidence and experience in buying a new car sucks. She had no idea what she was getting herself into. They manipulate. She thought she had a deal until i talked to her because thats what she was lead to believe.

She was even supposed to get a full tank of fuel, it had only 3/4 of a tank, only a small detail i know but still frustrating.

Whats done is done, shes happy with the car now at least...

One thing i can say is the service experience i had at this particular dealership was top notch. Her P/S pump shit itself 1 week after taking the car. The service on this side of things was great. So it was not all bad.

To the post above, goto www.honda.com.au they have all the RRP prices of all the new models on there.

Took delivery of my 09 Civic Vti last week. Got it for $24.8k driveaway. Its a manual with metallic paint, 12mths rego, 5 yr warranty, carpet mats and full tank of fuel. Not quite a bargain, but still happy with what i got :)

I jus rang random ones. You can haggle with them, but still there wont be too much of a difference I think, or am I wrong?

I jus feel 27500 for a vti is too much money for it..if it was 23-24k id think thats reasonable

One dealer explained its all coz of the dollar and in april to expect further increases.

anyone have a price listing of the optional extras that come with a civic?

So far in the market looking for a vti-l auto with sunroof(sounds silly but can't justify paying upto 37K for the sports) so far best quote is approx $31,200

what i've gathered so far

Pearls & Metalic 395 (495 for white)
Tint 450 (assuming honda?)
Matts 167
Rear Park 520

Looking at prices for
Fogs
Bassworks
bluetooth
Door Visor

I have been quoted 25800 for an automatic VTi drive away with no extras or
27000 for the following extras:
floor mats
front & rear mud guards
pollen filter
metalic paint
plate covers
chrome exhaust finisher
tinted windows
rear parking sensors
VIP Card (10% off servicing)
Honda extended warranty.

I got this quote for a family mmber who was looking for a new car. He was really happy about the price because he wasn't able to get the same offer I did. However, he'd already signed up for a VW Jetta instead.

That's a good price. It's possible to add accessories any time, however, you can usually negotiate a much better price on the accessories when you bundle it up with the new car purchase. You will now be paying top price if you go for genuine Honda accessories but shop around and get quotes from various dealers. You will be suprised how much a quote can vary from dealer to dealer.

Hi OzHonda forum,

New to this forum as I am scouring for good info to help retiring father-in-law buy 09 Civic Vti Auto. Likely his last car purchase:)

His initial enquiry @ 2 Melbourne dealers netted $29k and $27k offers without extras and without haggling.

This forum leads me to think much better can be had...maybe 25-26k with some good accessories.

Any thoughts on the better Melbourne dealers?
Have prices risen since early this year that will affect the 25-26k idea?

Going to dealers tomorrow to see what we can do?

All opinions welcomed

if you want good accessories with it 25-26k might be hard to get... at 26k you should be able to get at least matt and tints.

Yes, I thought it might be go for low dollars (25k) and practically no accessories or get as many accessories as possible and pay the little extra (26k). Guess it depends on which way the salesman is going;)

hi guys ... just signed up to get your thoughts on what i should be aiming for in terms of the civic vti 40th anniversary limited edition...

this is what it comes with extra....
* Alloy wheels
* Rear park assist
* Fog lights
* Deluxe tailored floor mats
* Chrome exhaust finisher
* 40th Anniversary badge

cheapest with no haggling ive been quoted is $26,950.. so $300 off rrp...
im thinking i should try for $26k driveaway with bluetooth and window tint???
i want to add in bluetooth (quoted $800) and window tint ... unless its better to get them after market? not sure whether i should just get it straight away

Jeez.... I saw the same car for $24,990 drive away advertised in this Saturday's age.

I don't know if the advertised models are actually 2008 run outs. From the pic in the paper the fog lights look different so they are possibly 2009 models.

Also $800 for bluetooth.....now that's just cream for the fat cat.

that is for MANUAL and for flat paint, so add metallic paint and auto!

dont expect big discounts on these as dealers only getting a small amout each so no need to discount.

these are NOT 2008 models, all 2009 models.

Yeah ...didn't know if the OP was quoting for manual or Auto. His price indicated he was after an auto...though you never know.

I wasn't sure if the 40th anniversary models were 2009's. Again I suspected they were but thanks for clearing that up.

Just bought a 40th Anniv Civic and I can't help thinking I got ripped off a little bit

This was my deal:
Civic 40th VTi
- Flat paint (white)
- Auto
which has the following in package
- mats
- 15" alloys
- parking assist
- exhaust tips
- fog lights
- 1 year rego

I got the following added
- extended warranty
- touch up paint
- luggage area protection
- pollen filter

for $28055

The salesguy had the following tricks:

- claimed that 40th anniversary cars were very popular and a lot have been sold even though it's only the first week into the promotion.
- claimed that white was very popular and out of the 400 odd Oz cars designated as 40th anniversary, their dealership only got 11, and had only 1 white left that was unspoken for.
- an official looking Honda memo that states the dealer will just get $500 per car for the anniversary editions (which he claims is confidential but it was in a folder with his other materials...)
- claimed that the purchase price was not movable because of Honda Australia locking them into a small margin, and that they had just had a meeting with Honda HQ about it to voice their exasperation
- claimed that he just wanted to make the sales numbers, and was making minimal money on it.
- claimed that they are still on the way here, so won't be available till end of Oct (2009).

I know these are pretty standard excuses, but I would like to know if there is any basis in truth, if there are any truthful anonymous Honda salespersons on this forum? Is the 40th Anniv promotion pretty popular? The guy was convincing but all good salespeople are. He pretty much didn't want to budge from the advertised anniversary price. When I called him out on the $895 for extended warranty, he said he would give it to me "at cost which was $750". Does that sound right?

In hindsight, I should have stuck to my guns and walked out to see if another dealer could beat the deal.
I have a feeling there was another $1k in there to play with??

I also did have a trade in, and got a slightly better than red-book trade-in value for it (private sale value obviously much higher, but I doubt I could have sold this car easily, as it had high mileage and subtle engine problems). I'm pretty sure they didn't take any sort of hit on the trade in though, as I'm sure they will make their margin on the resale.

Anyway, just comparing notes and keeping prospective buyers informed. I wish I had found this site beforehand :(

the three delears here in sa that i have spoken with have all said exactly the same thing... only one was willing to give me a quote and he would only budge $500 on the price saying that there was nothing in it for them

i do and dont believe them because i know thats what they would say if it wasn't true... but it doesnt make sense to sell a car at cost!

one other thing that two of the dealerships said was that honda australia was making them 'absorb' the extra costs included in the 40th anniversary edition... so not sure what to believe atm

the sales guy told u how it is and id tell u the same stuff!

we are getting stuff all cars to sell and it sucks big time!
they are better value than a normal VTi.

you are dreaming if u think u could get another 1k discount.
why the hell would any dealer discount a good value car when they get stuff all cars from honda and everyone wants one?

u got a car so be happy as there will be alot of people who miss out!

i walked away after saying i couldnt go to 27k thinking he would ring me back saying he would do it at 26.5k but no call...

other dealership also said $27k was the cheapest....

this limited edition deal is good in my opinion for the alloys only....all the other 'extras' i can add on after market cheaper imo

but now im thinking about other cars if i cant get this one at the right price :(

ended up getting the civic anniversary edition in black for 27k ..
i was on the verge of signing for the impreza rx but salesguy wouldnt go to straight 30k for the auto.. only 30.5.. would have gotten it over the honda for the price just based on the drive alone.. but damn the dash was ugly/outdated

the subaru guy rang me twice while i was negotiating at honda and he still wouldnt go down to the 30k mark :thumbdwn:

anyways... honda wouldnt move on the 27k price mark..
tried to get at least the first service free ... but nothing :(

didnt realise but my wife had previously worked with the finance guy at honda... and after the sale was done he showed us the 'sales board' and explained that we had bought the 9th civic anniversary edition (out of 10 allocated to the dealership) and the last black one since the promotion started...and about 5 accords anniversary edition

also interesting that they had sold 6 cars on a tuesday the 6th .. after the long weekend i guess..

also the guy that had sold us the civic had the most sales with 7...
also.. 16 hondas had been sold since the start of the month and 5 of those financed through honda finance

they tried to sell me the window tint for $495 and a parrot bluetooth hands free kit for $900 plus all that crap 'protection' starting at $700 going up to $2k :o

ive organised window tint at $250 at a local place here .. darkest legal tint
and also a nice hands free kit at tonkins for $320 is next to be done :p

all in all im happy with my purchase and hope i have a good run with my first honda

thanks to everyone who has put up their thoughts and experiences

and in term of warranty, if I remember correctly, if they install the off market sensor for you, you can only bring the car back to where you purchase the sensor. but if you have Honda sensor, you can bring it to any Honda dealer

I tried for $24,500 over the phone with another, and he said I was ambitious, 25K was hypothectically negotiable if I came down immediately, but I didn't much like the dealer's tactics. Another said they can't do 25K so we went with the forth one who agreed to it, with not much hassle over the phone. He was surprised to see as show up the next day when we said we would :).

HARLEY tints is $450 rrp and paint protection is i think $800 rrp with honda.
tints outside would be about $200 darkest legal and paint protection $350

so save a little but not much so i went with honda because i thinks its worth it the salesman didn't hesitate with that price because it is reasonable

would recommend trivett parramatta to anyone their customer service is very good..

some dealers won't even talk to you when price is to low but they more then willing to negotiate.. next car will be there again for sure.

ohh by the way have to mention im driving car already got it almost straight away... sorry you have to wait for yours.. cheers!!

to be honest i think paint protection is a bit of a mistake :( for exterior. I have a black civic with paint protection, it has swirl marks all over it under the sun :( look like i had a dodgy wax job.

Cry and i cant put any product on it (waxing/polishing it) or i will void my warranty.

Anyway just a word of wisdom, park your car under direct sunlight for inspection, cus you wont be able to tell it is scratched in the shade which my dealer did. Also check the tint job on the back window (boot top) for 1 water mark on the break light area and if they had cut an area for the break light, check on your mirrors (top of your windscreen) to see if tint is on and no gaps on the top corners of the light. On mine i can see 2 corners of non-tinted (over cut) area.

i got mine black /w metallic paint, carpet and weather guard for $23,990 my10 vti man.

Hi new to the forum here, I just purchased a Honda Civic VTI auto 2010 model today. I looked at 3 different car dealerships, I got offered $24500 on my first time after haggling and thought I'll try another one and see if I could do better. I thought I had gotten a pretty average price so I searched around the internet until I looked at this forum...

Ended up getting my car for $23688 in Habanero Red, with 6 years warranty and road side assistance. No other extras but I think I did pretty damn well now :)

r u sure it's built in 2010? i.e. MY10?
coz even if it's the 2010 model, it could be built in 2009
that will make a lot different in terms of price, so to your resell value

with that price mark and that 6 years warrenty , i'm pretty sure it's built in 09

I asked the dealer for the information, he said that the car was built Feb 10 and that it was Compiled March 10. I guess it would be worth checking the vehicle anyway just to make sure that what they are saying is true. Thanks for that :)

I guess I got a good price cause the dealer said that they can get a hold of that particular car in that colour. Will be picking up the car on Friday, can't wait!

Limited edition sucks
it basically add all those stuffs onto the car before you order it, aka force you to pay for them

Planning to buy one of these in manual:
2010 HONDA CIVIC Limited Edition 8th Gen
or
2010 HONDA CIVIC VTi 8th Gen (regular)

in Perth within the next couple months, and wondering how low I can get the price.
maybe not as low as in eastern states?

from what I've read on here you can bargain the price down a good $2500+, so any advice especial advice for bargaining the LE toward $22k from 25k or the regular VTI toward $20k from $23k?

besides the normal haggling for a very low price and being tough and willing to walk (I'm already experienced at this :)

I guess we only have 3 dealers in Perth - anyone know which is best for cheapest deal? I live closest to Honda North and already visited.

The only addon's I'm really interested in are tinted windows (should be few hundred) and extended warranties. What's a good price for extending it from say normal 3 years to 7+ years?

much appreciated to anyone who can help with any of these things! :D

To my experience, i think you should wait a little while to purchase a new vehicle because now is not the high sale season. Let's wait 2 or 3 more months when dealers they behind the set-up objective so they can be easy to deal with.

As suually they will not down the price but you can ask to add more and more accessories such as spoiler, floor mat, trunk protection, tinted window, 5 year warranty service.

I had an best offer with dealer as above post, it is quite nice for me for the momment.

yea, the dealer said they sold 4 civics last saturday, so I dont know if he's making it up, but there is a sale on atm and the value is good. Still I need to wait until august when my old car is 2yrs old (for tax reasons) so that should work out. They'll be on lower sales volume by then and more desperate eh?

hopefully I can lower the price a fair bit (I expect about 2500) because I'm not really interested in any of the extras except mainly warranty (although I want the civic because its rated about the most reliable small car there is)

As usually, when your friend (whoever) bought a new car, he(she) will receive some (2 or 4) referral cards which will enable you to save a few hundred and your friend will receive a few bonus (it could be whatever you ask for). I got for my friend 200$ cheaper and i personally got 100$ But i exchange for other accessory thing. So, if you can get some one who bought a brand new car, this means you will save some more.

"check this out... my mate got this deal for his dad

$24,000 drive away - auto - silver
floor matts
tinted windows

but the salesman was almost crying

damn
i'm thinking that i coulda got another 1k off mine or something "

and that was in early 2007 - over 3 years ago. Shouldn't the price for practically the same thing have fallen (alot?) in that time?

Also, I've read there'll be a new civic next year, so will that lower the value significantly in the current 8th generation?

makes me think perhaps I oughta wait... :(

Nah, actually prices have risen because they've loaded more extras into the car. Cheapest time to buy was the end of 2008 when VTI's were going out the door for around 22k driveway. Prices have risen since 2009 with the facelift model.

Hi Guys

I am new to this forum and am looking to get a new civic. Have been quoted a price of 22K drive away for a manual Civic VTI inclusive of titanium tinted windows, Honda genuine mats, 6 year warranty and roadside assist, 1 free service, mudflaps and rear sensor. What do you think?

Also, I might want to get your thoughts to compare a new civic for this price against a 2006/07 used Civic (50,000-60,000 kms old) same model for 14-15 grands? The new one comes with warranty and also curtain airbags/Electronic stability control while the old ones do not.

Thanks

hmm, I'm in the same boat as you - looking to buy, but that doesn't sound to bad? whereabouts is that?

currently they're 23k rrp driveaway for those specs, but rear sensor probably worth like $500 althought the rest not more than 500 combined IMO. You could probably wipe another 500 off the price to get nearly the best deal.

I thought they didnt have ESC? the vti I'm pretty sure doesn't have any side airbags, too...

Yup, the VTI model dow not have side airbag, that is one of the reason i choose the VTI-L over. Honda does have the Stability control and traction control in all models

hsonthalia
03-07-2010, 08:06 AM
The previous 8th generation civic base model did not have side airbags but the new ones come with side as well as curtain airbags. What does IMO mean? This deal is available in Melbourne.

I do agree that 21,500 would be a pretty good price inclusive of the optional extras. Wonder how much they would be able to do without the rear sensors? Or perhaps, is the limited edition worth negotiating than taking a base with rear sensors consdering it also includes alloys?

didier
03-07-2010, 10:52 PM
depends if you want alloys or not. worth it for minor performance boost IMO (in my opinion) but not worth it otherwise.

heard good things about rear sensors, so if could get a regular vti with that, I'd probably take it (even if its say 300-500 more)

yea, from checking honda.com.au today it seems they do all come with front, side and curtain airbags (for back seats too!) now + Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), so thats alot better than the ~2006 models (from carsales.com they seem to only have dual front)

didier
03-07-2010, 11:05 PM
altho from browsing this great forum it seems you can get a great rear sensor aftermarket for about $200 or even less if you wanna install urself (not hard it seems) :)

hsonthalia
04-07-2010, 09:08 AM
Thanks didier. I had someone call me yesterday and quote 21750 for the regular VTI with the rear sensors. I am sure I'll easily be able to get 21,500 when I do the deal. My missus thinks that the Mazda3 is more trendy and a NEO with pretty much the same features as the VTI but more modern interior comes at 22,500 with the sensors. The price is hardly any diff...which one holds up in resale value considering I doubt I'll keep it for more than 2 years.

hsonthalia
04-07-2010, 09:13 AM
Oops I forgot to mention that for 500 bucks more I am getting rear sensors and fog lights. So the price quote would be 21,250 only with the tints, mud flaps, 6 year warranty + roadside assist, mats and 10K free service.

didier
04-07-2010, 01:27 PM
importantly, what colour are you getting? according to the website anything but white is an extra ~$460.

at the moment a standard manual vti in red with pretty much no extras (what I'm planning to get around august) could be mine as cheap as $21k or less (ie about $2500 off the rrp). hopefully not too much to ask for in Perth :P

I drove the mazda 3 right before a civic. Its almost like a toyota compared to a lexus (or mercedes even).

both will hold value very well, but civic probably a little more.

hsonthalia
05-07-2010, 09:40 AM
I am planning to get a black possibly or even a graphite grey. A red is not available until the end of Aug. With the extras like mudflaps, tints, floor mats, free 10K service and 6 year warratny+roadside assist I have been quoted 21,250. If I am not able to settle this for 21K I'll be disappointed.

From what I can see on the carsales website, I agree that the neo (comparable to the VTI now) did not hold the price well but that was possibly because it was a crap version without any basic safety features. Also its price was lower than a civic by about 4K. I am tempted to think that the 3 is more popular and has a higher resale; also because this is a new model while civic is launching a new model next year.

What makes you think of a 3 as a toyota and a civic as a lexus?

didier
05-07-2010, 09:47 AM
you should test drive both yourself of course! but I felt the mazda 3 wasn't any funner or enjoyable to drive than my 1996 laser (the old mazda 323), however the honda civic was a much smoother ride, and felt more responsive than the 3. I've driven toyota's and dont like driving em because they feel like clunky robots, and mercedes tend to have that very smooth drive I found in a 8th gen civic.

hmm, sounds like ur getting down to an amazing price. I'll have to demand those extras too, otherwise take my offer prices even lower!

Yes, looks like a good price compared to what I initially thought. Good luck with your buy - let me know at what price you seal the deal.

I quite like the look of Mazda thought because of the black colour interior it looks rather dark. I agree that I need to test drive both of them before I can decide.

Yup, the VTI model dow not have side airbag, that is one of the reason i choose the VTI-L over. Honda does have the Stability control and traction control in all models

pls get the correct facts before posting
vti has ESC and full 6 airbags

Hi UNLS1..do you currently sell hondas through a dealership? What do you think of the price that I have been quoted - is there much room to negotiate?

I am based in Melbourne - any tips on how to get a decent deal? Also, is it possible to get beige trim cloth instead of grey ones on the civic vti at all?

Thanks for correction.
Civic from 2009 only come with full length airbags and VSC, TC in all models.
I was about the 2008 model backward

Thanks tinymoon. I was hoping I could hear more on the VTI and VTI limited as I do not think the Sport would be anywhere close to my budget!

Also any thoughts guys on buying a used Euro luxury 2003/2004 at 18-19K vs buying a new civic VTI for 21K? I am getting a bit confused!!!

yea, you paid almost the retail price? you also got white so that should have been cheaper than all the other colours by about $450... By the looks of it taking off $2000 is the minimum - and taking off up to $4000 is possible.

Hi All - been browsing the forums the last few weeks preparing myself for a Honda purchase. Went into a dealer and got one today:

2010 VTI Manual Dyno Blue
Front and Rear mud flaps
Rear parking sensors
Tinting
Mats
Acsent Lighting (makes everything blue inside)
Premium Plates
Tank of petrol (but I think that is given)

$22,000 drive away. Stand your ground guys and I think you'll be able to do yourself a good deal!

Thanks to all previous posters for giving me a good indication of what I could get. You all have been really helpful

hmm, cool - $1000 off the rrp + a few nice extras.

I'm interested to know coz I want them - how much was the Ascent Lighting? (or could you work out the approx worth/cost to them?)

and what city are you in?

For Ascent Lighting I was quoted $313 brand new. In the scheme of things, this is nothing so I was able to get them for "free". I am in Sydney. I started off at $21K as that is that is the lowest I have heard other people on the forum have got theirs for. I relented a little and struck a deal at $22K. Let me know if you want any more info.

Rear parking sensor and acsent light cost almost and matt already cost more than 1000. You got the good deal, mate. By the way how is the ascent light? If you have any chance to post some pix of them because i am thinking to get it fitted into my car. Thanks

thanks!

what about the illuminated blue sill garnish (the blue glow at bottom of doors) did you get this or know the rough cost?

and are they making you wait for your car?

any tricks bringing them down toward your lowball offer?

didier
18-07-2010, 01:28 AM
like, I mean did you go for bottom price first, and then demanded addons for the minimum price they offered? thats probably the strategy I'll go with since I don't need any extras really - prefer basement price :)

Before I went in I was tossing up which strategy to use. In the end I decided to state all the extras I really wanted and then we were getting to the pointy end of negotiations I tossed in the Accent lighting.

I am not a pro negotiator to deal with dealer but here are some tips that i have use:

- Search around and get quote from as many as dealer you can
-Pick up the best you think you can deal with asking them to do matching price
-I always take other friend or girlfriend along to have balance in order to have better deal (like your gf or friend do not want to deal but you seem to ok, like your friend say that you would have better deal with other...budget things with gf blah blah whatever you can play with)
-Ending up with the list of extras that you want, which are mandatory that your gf would agree on the deal.
-Saying that is not the colour you want (or whatever reason to cancel the deal if your (or your gf)'s demands not be satisfied

I got mine VTI-L Auto (27.700) black metalic paint ,spoiler, service free 10.000, 5 year warranty, floor matt, trunk protection matt, 2 tank of fuel for first check-up 1000km and 10.000 service. tinting window, free luxury car wash card (5 times), exhaust tips, dust and pollen filter, key chain, Honda hat ....

wow, thats like $6000 off the RRP - nice job, and great tips :)

however the VTI-L is pretty bad value for money, considering it costs $7000 more for a handful of features.
