98 civic vtec or not

hi guys

my friend recently bought a 98 civic sedan, the previous owner told him its a vti
with out any real evidence, the engine is a d16y5

i have done my research already and im pretty sure thats sohc vtec 1.6
but other people keep telling me its a gli

some noob guy even told me he can tell its not a vtec by the way the engine starts up.

i just want some confirmation from u guys that

d16y5 is vtec or not so i can rub it in other peoples faces.

yes its sohc vtec-e
got the same power as d16y4 but 1nm more peak torque

Yes,100% it's a VTI,and 100% It's a SOHC VTEC-E
