Hi there i own a 94 honda accord exi and was curious whether it is worth turbo'ing or supercharging it? can anyone give me a around about price on this? ive been qouted $20,000 for a turbo setup seems a bit steep, condsidering its double the value of the car

just buy a car that has a turbo in it already =.= no point spending $20,000 to get a set up when there are plenty of cheap turbo cars out in the market IMO.

if they quoted you $20,000 it means they think that you have no idea and they don't want to do the job for you. at the most you would expect to pay $8000 and thats getting everything done for you. Take the time and read through some of the other threads on here, then YOU can decide whether it is worth it or not.

can be done even lower than that ^^^

yep, thats why I said "at the most" and "getting everything done for you". geez if you know enough and have time and patience and use all second hand stuff, I reckon you could do it for a grand easily! Somehow though I don't think he is in that ballpark.
$20,000?
Shouldnt cost you too much, if you know what your doing, what parts you need, just read up on how to boost your car and then see what peoples setups are and what works and from there go and find the right parts for your car, peice them up together and get a nice tune, cost wise it can also depend on your power goals, if you just want alittle bit more go, then just go check the health of your motor by doing a compression test or leak down test, if everything is healthy, find the right size turbo for your motor and application and run a certain amount of boost thats just right eg. 6psi and get it tuned by a reputable tuner or someone who knows what their doing and all should be good, if your more into serious power then thats when the big dollars roll in. good luck.

A safe and 'real' turbo set up WILL cost you about 17k-20k.
Considering your engine will need custom parts made like engine internals
1) Can take a while and 2) Can be costly
If you want to be rebuilding your engine and risk blowing something within 3 months, buy yourself a kit of ebay (the cheap $8000 kits)
I can get you a H22 built for boost for about 17k-ish complete.
PM me if you have any questions.

OMG... are you serious mate there is no way a turbo setup would cost 17-20k unless like previously stated "your after huge power goals". I have a D16ZC in my EG which I'm boosting and its costing me about $2000 max to run about 6psi and get about 160 kw. Then when I get around to getting some pistons and rods that'll only be about another $1000 then I'll be able to safely run 10 psi.
All you have to do is shop around and know a few good mechanics to help you fit and tune it all...

Ill spend most of the 20K getting a prelude si / vtir, a later model one of course then boostin it!!

no way 6 psi gets u that at the wheels, At the fly MAYB, probably not even at the fly
Look at more like 100- 110 atw, either way its better and cheaper than a b16

OOOpps sorry I think I mixed that up with horse power... I should get 160 HP at the wheels ZC's are pulling that easy in america. The guys that are running about 10psi and some internal work are getting up around the 200 - 250 HP mark???????
I am new to all this turbo stuff still so forgive me if I'm wrong...
from what ive read, seems like the d16's can put down about 200 - 230hp atw safely, with a good tune on a stock motor.

Yeah I've heard alot of cases where people have reached that sort of power without spending enormous amounts of cash...

$2000 for a turbo setup??? complete with manifolds, turbo, cooler, piping etc..??
And your saying you can get your engine rebuilt with forged pistons and rods for only $1000?????
so which dodgy mechanic is doin all this for you?? man those prices wont even cover parts!

No dodgy mechanics mate just a good couple of weekends in my mates shed with a heap of beer for payment. As for parts I've picked everything up dirt cheap from mates in our car club who have upgraded and dont need them anymore, sure they are used but its good enough for now to get me going till I can round up enough cash to rebuild the spare ZC I have...
Oh and I said nothing about forged pistons, I'll be getting vitaras these quiet easily handle upto 400 hp in the US and I'm not chasing anywhere near that sort of power with this engine.

If you can read properly, he said 150 for an intercooler which is available at justjap. And you can find a second hand d series turbo kit for 2000.

If you can fabricate some parts and dont mind using freeware ecu software such as Crome, then $2000 will come close, clutch and what not will push it a bit over though.
Dont try and tell me it wont either, been there done that.
$99 intercoolers? Yuck

what size is it?
bar and plate or tube and fin?
For $99 u get (at justjap)
Tube & Fin - 300 x 225 x 55mm
http://www.justjap.com/parts/new/intercoolers/cpintercooler300225.jpg
Or for $150 you get
Bar and Plate - 550 x 180 x 65mm
http://www.justjap.com/parts/new/intercoolers/cpintercooler550180.jpg
Its double the width, not as tall, but thicker AND flows better due to it being bar and plate AND easily fits UNDER the reinforcment bar on a civic WITHOUT cutting
are they shit or what? because thats cheap..
just jap office bucket seat chairs are cool
