Hi guys, I have a big problem on my hand,
I'm trying to get a roadworhty cert for my jdm itr but the problem is i keep getting knocked back cos of my srs steering wheel being popped.
Called up vicroads to find out what i can do to get it on the road. guy goes that i need to go to honda to reset my srs light (dash) so it doesn't light up and i need to refit another srs airbag...

If i go and buy a new genuine srs momo steering it will cost me a leg... just to freaken get it road worthy so i can sell the car. the srs light in the dash i have fixed myself... only problem now is the steering wheel

Can anyone help me out? or have any suggestions?

Not sure how you fixed the light but you do realise that even if the buyer was aware of the SRS issue, you can still be sued if he gets into an accident for passing off an unroadworthy car as roadworthy.

I rang up vic roads just before and the guy said that I will need to get a genuine honda non srs version of the same kind to pass road worthy

Can anyone help me out by letting me burrow there steering wheel please??? I will pay for your time and give you a free meal!

when i did my VIV and RWC in melbourne... how they test the airbags is when you start the car the airbag light turns on then off after a 3 seconds i believe. If this doesn't happen in your car... then i don't even know how you plan on passing the rwc.

whoever said you could get sued is on the money.

if you were just doing this to get it registered for your own use thatd be fine, but you are potentially sacrificing the safety of the next buyer to save some money.

imagine if you were the buyer, part of the purpose of the inspection is your assurance of feeling safe and confident buying the car, knowing that it is in good condition.

imo we should not support this sorta stuff on the forum. if i was the buyer, and i found out that you swapped steering wheels to pass rwc, i would definately pay you a visit

just to freaken get it road worthy so i can sell the car.

you are trying to fix this to sell it ~ that is the point of this thread.
That means its your full intention to sell it with a deflated SRS steering wheel.
You CAN borrow another to get it registered BUT its your obligation to fix the wheel properly before selling it.

^ This man is the winner.

You've got an ethical, and dare say *LEGAL* obligation to the next owner to fix it.

give this guys a email
gav@airbagsforsale.com.au
or ring his mobile
0409 507 237

im sure he has a few sets of type R airbag kits or knows where to get them
he installs on sight and tests your airbag system. (anything he installs is guaranteed viv pass and roadworthy pass, registered business and vicroads know them)
should cost around 1450-1700 bux for the whole thing done. THATS HALF PRICE COMPARED TO HONDA repair centre from when i last checked on prices (if you get it any lower then 3k from honda, means they have left our some parts and prices).
(i've done a few jobs with him before so i know thats the rough price your looking at)

*if the airbag has gone off you have to replace the discharge unit*

yeah, honda is very expensive. Had a friend with NSX and paid $7000 for a new clutch. :(

For your own sake i hope you fit it and leave it there, you will get yourself into all sorts of trouble if you do anything dodgy, and noone wants to find they are liable in the event of an accident for knowingly removing safety equipment
