i started getting a noise comming out of my gear box, like a grinding noise, and i'm almost sure its the thrust shaft. but if there are any ideas on wat else it could be, let me know.
also, sometimes when i down gear into second, turning into a corner, thats slightly bumpy, it pops out of second. only happens in second gear though. any help would be great

then ur gear box needs reconditioning its one of the bearings inside the box.

Appart from usual thrust & spigot bearings in the clutch & flywheel.

A grinding noise from the gearbox is often the #1 input shaft bearing.
When oil is low or old, it's the bearing 1st to fail as it's highest bearing in the box - ie: furthest from the oil.
Popping out of 2nd gear is the detent & or the 1st~2nd Hub-ring.

Checking your engine mounts & shift linkage bushes is also a good idea.
On odd occasion, broken engine mounts can cause similar problem with pulling out of gear.

Does the sound go away when you release the clutch pedal? Then its probably the throw-out bearing, usually caused by insufficient clutch play. Get your clutch replaced at the same time, and check the pressure plate for excessive wear.

mine did that cos i left it too long, basically i shredded the input shaft bearing to bitz so i could get my new engine.

Change the input shaft bearing now, it will grind, start to slip and pop put of gears. Also u will damage the oil seal and gradually lose all ur box oil.

a mechanic will prolly charge between 600 if u know him to 1200 for it, its a box and drive shafts out job and labour intensive. There is also a DIY job in the diy section if you know your way about ur can and are good withyour hands.

if the noise only happens wen ur driving then its a bearing inside ur gearbox, popping out of gear is probaly cause by freeplay inside gearbox(worn bearing=shaft movement)if it only happens wen u press clutch its ur release bearing.
