Hi guyz.
I dynoed my car for the first time today. Very happy with what i got. I was wonderin if anybody knew how to read the AFR graph?

Can anyone tell me if there's anything wrong with my AFR and is there anything important about it i should know?

a/f looks ok. A piggyback comptuer should fix it up and net abit more power.

afr isnt really that bad, its a good place to start.
the big hump is only 0.5 a/f, the graphs' scale exagerates the impact.

In fact, the curve before the hump needs to be leaned out to match the hump's peak.

Thats about 1-2hrs work.

Stoichiometric ratio is 14.7. I think most A/F ratios are tuned to 13:1 to obtain power, while at the same time preventing a lean condition. Yours is at 12:1 at lowcam and 12.5:1 back down to 11.5:1 at highcam. There is more potential power to be made through tuning back up to 13:1.

CUL8R
04-02-2007, 04:36 PM
^^^in theory yes.

but the key is to obtain an a/f which makes maximum power, then tune the whole rpm range to that a/f.
most n/a will be in 13...most turbo will run richer like 12 through to low 11s to avoid detonation
atleast thats how i understand it. theres a reason i dont do the tuning on my car and pay my tuner to do it

I still don't understand how to read the AFR though.. :)

on the rhs of the graph ull see numbers which indicate an a/f ratio....this is how many units of air to one unit of fuel expressed as a ratio.

stoich is 14.7 but at WOT u tune richer (lower numbers) to keep the engine from causing damage. higher numbers are known as lean and can only be viable if at low load (low throttle positions) and at low rpm.
a lean mix will result in worst cases like melted cats where rich mixes result in ditry rear bars lol and gunked up o2 sensors.

usually stoch is used for idle and low rpm low load
13 is used for na tuning
12, 11 is used for turbo tuning to avoid detonation

thats BASIC

sorry...what i kinda meant was lean yet still safe

but yes...WORST case equals some serious issues

silver_screen

shes runnin rich uptop

Other then that, it looks ok :) you should try to get it tuned to run 12.5:1 at all rpm ranges on WOT and that'll give u a good compromise between outright power and keeping the engine nice and safe through out the rev range :)

126kw is a nice figure but theres more to be had with tuning :)

Oh and btw... running rich doesnt just mean dirty rear bars... running exessively rich also makes tiny lil pin holes in the pistons :) not nice :)

But its gotta be fairly rich for that to happen

Yeah i saw your car on the dyno it was interesting seeing the H22A pulling more power then the two Dc2R's on there earlier low- 120's.

a old skool ford mustang pulled 119rwkw i was expecting so much more from it.
Holden Commodore R8 255 ls1 pulled 210rwkw looked stock as a rock though.

my car pulled 222rwkw. (disappointing) for what its got tahts a Skyline R33 Gts though not honda.

I remember your car running 222kw.. impressive figures

the black dc2r that ran earlier got 130kw atw.

a friend of mine heard the mustang guys dissing out my car..
while their v8 (2x more cylinders, million times more engine capacity, and 3-4 times for petrol consumption) pulled the same power as I did.. 118.8kw.

Well maybe he doesn't understand the difference between POWER@ eNgine and power@wheels ahahaha .. you know usually v8's have around 200kw@engine and they think they all high and mighty .. hence the comments..

keep in mind your dc2r also is lot lighter then the mustang so you'll have no worrys beating him in a straight or around corners.

222rwkw.. car looks stock other then gtr32 rims and fmic.. still need to paint the fmicooler+piping black to make it more sleeper even got the 'GTS' only sticker at the rear and running a plumb back bov so people think i'm N/A if they don't know skylines.

That power tune dyno throws out some nice figures!....

Run all you cars down the quater mile and see what times you'll get. Ill bet ya it won't reflect the power you pulled on the dyno.

I took my little 1.3L swift there, stock motor and pulled 90kw atw:eek::eek: and stock pulls around 60kw atw.

I guess you didn't hear Darrens' Accord box blew and it got it replaced with a H22A Vtec box?
Darren has even had his exhaust and intake redone, again.

:D:cool:;):):(:eek::honda::confused::angel:

i'm assuming your talking about a straight line race cos lsd means so much on circuit.

but even with a straight line, if you got a lot of power to put down lsd is still really help with not just the launch. seen plenty of cars with a lot of power and no lsd wheelspin excessively on shifts. lsd gonna help reduce this and get the power down.
H22A has a lot of torque so an lsd will definately help.

more importantly - you can't really separate the launch from the rest of the race. considering its comparing 2 cars with similar power figures the launch is most likely going to be the winning point of a race

Yeah right, as if a H22A with bolt on mods is going to have trouble keeping traction on shifts. Like SMEAGLE said, an LSD will be most helpful on the launch but its nothing a good set of tyres can't fix. Definately the difference in gear ratios would have a bigger impact on the outcome of the race.

From what I hear anyway, a Quaife LSD along with a shitload of power will be putting one of the competitors well ahead of the rest. :p

THE H22A HAS A GREAT AMOUNT OF TORQUE.. CONSIDERING ITS ONLY A 4 CYLINDER.. BOLT ON WILL SEND IT THRU ROOF.. YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVENT COME ACROSS A H22A THAT HAS BIT OF WORK DONE.. HOW CAN YOU SAY DARREN CAR IS QUICK THEN TURN AROUND AND SAY H22A ARE BASICALLY SHIT?? YOU'RE A NUGGET MATE..

aznsiko mate!! what the heck are you on about??

i personally drive a h22a myself and the only time you have problems pickin up traction is only on a launch. Besides the launch every gearshift should be fine. This is for all bolt-on mods.

I know ppl pullin 130kw+ atw have no trouble pickin up traction on gear shifts either so its quite obvious that a h22a with basic bolt-ons will have no problem what so ever. Even a baby can figure this out.

And PLEASE!! dont need to use capslock so all the attention can go on you mate.
