This is one feature i definitely want on my 06 civic :) the models in japan are available with a keyless entry/start feature which allows you leave your "key" in your pocket all the time and just pull the door handle to unlock and turn a knob to start the engine... kinda like on the new lexus and mercedes cars.
attached a screenshot of the google-translated japanese honda civic page :)
i'm confident this can be made to work in our cars. i also especially like the door handles with chrome trim

So unsecure.
Basically means anyone that steals your fob means they can just walk right in to your car and drive off. Nothing is stopping them.
Maybe they don't get Jacks' over in Japan LOL
** Haha - There is a Medical Warning at the bottom!

i was thinking about it, it might actually be a bit expensive. you need at least:
- 3 sensors
- new front door handles with the push-to-lock button
- presumably new matching rear door handles
- boot release motor
- possibly new trim piece for the rhs of the steering column
- a new key receptacle
- reprogramming of the immobiliser to match the new key
- all the associated wiring
that said, it will be possible, and will most probably depend on whether you can find an australian honda dealer that's willing to import and install it.

by 'job' i assume you mean 'fob'? i don't see how that's much different from someone stealing your normal keyfob...
edit: i think this is actually more secure. you can put the fob in a pocket that is much harder to reach, or in the extreme you could make a zipped pocket on the inside of your pants and keep the fob there, because you never have to take it out to lock, unlock or start the car. with a normal keyfob you have to take it out every time.
that medical warning is quite common, even mobile phones are treated the same way around medical equipment.

Sorry; yeah. Fob.
And at the time I was comparing it to one of the systems we sell, it's got a keypad that requires to be used before the car 3-point immobilisers are switched off.
But you do have a point, not too much different. Which begs the question. is the convinence worth it.

I dont like the keyless entries. Shit, how much effort does pressing a button then sticking a key into a hole take. If they want to improve motoring, this is the last area they should be concerned with.

This isn't motoring. It's show. not Go.

Well, Someones' got a bit of a whiff up their nose; havn't they?
I was making the point that Honda didn't do this for go; it's purely for convienence.
Take a chill pill.

depends how much money you have spilling out of your pockets :) it's a pure convenience/luxury and not much more, but it still is pretty damn nifty!

I think this sort of feature is very gimmicky. Seems like a feature they put in just so they can put it in the brochure as a feature.
my issue with this sort of thing is that it affects the price, they will likely ask more for a car that is equipped with more features. And if I were to pay extra for features I dont want useless ones like this.

hm... nice features...
One question though... are you sure this is for Civic? Maybe Honda will put this features on Legend/Accord only (for luxury purposes, so they can compete with Lexus and all). And also its look like that this will be a "manufacturer options" which means "optional" features?

it seems like it. firstly it's on the civic page, and also the top-down diagram is of a civic, the key receptacle shot shows a civic steering wheel, and the door handle is also an 8th gen civic door handle.

Wew!!! I didnt even notice most of the things you sed there... O.O hehehehe... nice observation chylld!!! (or maybe i need to start wearing glasses now??? :( ). Anyway, personally I like this features. coz the new civic looks more "luxurious" than the older version, thats why it will be suitable for this version of civic. Dont you agree?
