View Full Version : Opinions on Euro rego plates

I have personalised plates (black with silver text) - slimline on front and full size on rear - and am wondering whether to change the rear to slimline as well (something that wasn't possible when I originally obtained my Qld plates).

So my question is, what are people's opinions on whether the rear of the Euro looks better with slimline or full size?

i think full size at the rear, not a fan of slimlines on the rear! :)
assuming your plates are the same sizes as NSW

I am sure I will be corrected, but would not the slimline plates be illelgal on the rear in any state? The full sized plates show better on the photos the police sometimes kindly take for us.

Full size on the rear looks OK,just don't like full size on the front!Definitely slimlines on the front.Less wind resistance!!Make you go faster

Umm hopefully not, my parents just ordered a custom no. plate for their Territory and its slimline front and back. So far no hassles :p in Vic btw.

on the subject of rego plates, has anyone got suggestions about changing the attachment bracket.the one i have on the front bumper is ugly and can be seen on the top and bottom of my regular sized rego plate.
1)Is there any genuine or aftermarket replacements out there that fit the size of the plate better?
2)Any pics or ideas of what other people have done to their euro

I just cut the bottom 1/3 of the plastic off and then sanded it smooth with some fine grade wet and dry, looks good now.

I dont think slimline in the back is illegal, coz vicroads made the slimline on the back as well.. (In victoria)... for me.. slim in the back or full size in the back.. both lookz good.. if the car like odessey, must be full size at the back :D

Any pics or ideas of what other people have done to their euro

I have slimlines on my Euro, and my dealer lopped off the bottom third of my plate bracket before delivery. Here are a couple of photos (apologies for the poor quality):

http://www.users.on.net/~aday/misc/euro/plate_01.jpg
http://www.users.on.net/~aday/misc/euro/plate_02.jpg

It's a little difficult to see, but the bracket no longer extends below the plate. I'd rather it not jut out above the plate either, but I'm not game to go hacking away at the bracket in a location that's highly visible. So this is a reasonable compromise.

I too think the Honda supplied plate holder is WAAAAAAY to big. So I just binned mine totally and made two small black plastic spacers approx 10mm long, 12mm in diameter with a 6mm hole for an M6 STAINLESS STEEL round head screw 25mm long (get the ones with allen key hole- they look better). Drill two 6mm (1/4”) holes through the plate at 260mm centres, if they go through a letter of number that is still OK (I painted the head of one screw in the ‘R’ black and left the other in the white background unpainted, if you look closely at the front view you can see the one screw head painted black and the other plain stainless steel.). I have a lathe to make the plastic spacers but obviously most of you will not have one, so you could use nylon or fibre washers and build up to the 10mm bought from your local nut and bolt shop where you will get the screws (I doubt Bunnings will have the screws). I will be more than happy to make the spacers for free if a small padded SAE is sent (PM me for details). Regarding the chrome surround most dealers have them although the rear one will have their name on it. I managed to get a rear one without the dealers name from a company that chromes plastic.

I realise that on the Euro Ltd Ed, the holes on the front bumper do not match up with the holes on the VIC license plate, so I had no choice but to use the back plate that's on the car.

Just picked up my car yesterday, Euro LE. I've got sllim for front and back with 5 letters, so slightly smaller than 6 letters, and i added number plate protector on it. I think it looks perfect!

I am sure I will be corrected, but would not the slimline plates be illelgal on the rear in any state? The full sized plates show better on the photos the police sometimes kindly take for us.

I heard that was the case in QLD.

I lopped the bottom off the front bracket as well and moved the plate to the top of the bracket to it covered that area. This was just for a std license plate.

incorrect.

PPQ now have an option where you can select slimline plates for the front and rear. it is not illegal.

that said, like others, i only got slimline plates for the front. dont like the look of slimline plates on the rear.
