hi all

i just purchased a 7th Gen Civic Sedan GLI everything standards but also i got cruise control fitted into it, the car has done just over 20100 kms and there is still Honda Warranty on the car,

the car has done its 10,000 and 20,000 service which checked in the owners manual, i also got an RACQ report which came up excellent,

the question is i paid $21,000 drive way price no more to pay,

did i get ripped or is that a fair price?

yea i was toying with that idea but if i went down that path it would have come to about $28k for a new Vti-L as i want the alloys, cruise control which the Vti-L has. Im talking here total price, drive away.

For $22,000 you could have got a manual VTi brand new, $24000 for an Auto. With crazy bargaining skills, $22000 for an auto if there was stock in Honda's holding yard.

yea but i am not interested in the VTI only the VTI L - automatic, so i was looking around $27-28k cause you gotta add on the 2% stamp duty + dealer delivery and all that bullsh!t.

Yeah, if you want the VTi-L, then it jacks the price up a bit. With good skills, you can get that stamp duty delivery BS covered by the dealer. I got my base Euro manual for $34000 driveaway. It's possible.

I helped my father-in-law buy a brand new 2005 7th gen Civic sedan GLi (exactly like yours) for $21,500 driveaway. Whereas your car already had over 20,000km on the odo...

Sorry, but you got ripped.

I would have sold you my 2005 GLi, 25000kms, Honda Bodykit, Tein springs, 17" Chromes, Dark tint, color coded dash parts and interior door handles (genuine Honda stuff), Genuine floor mats and Stainless "civic" door sills. Absolutely immaculate condition a couple of grand more than you paid. Good choice of car though mate!

But it doesn't have cruise.

Was the one you bought Auto or Man??? What color? I love the face lifted 7th Gens!

hi yes i like the hondas always been a fan but i must confess, but please dont laugh now, because i am coming from a 1988 Mitsubishi sedan, which i have had for 10 years now and a very trouble free car, so i am hoping this civic will give me trouble free motoring.

the civic i got is ruby red, automatic, with cruise fitted as extra, i have cruise in my old magna and i can't do without it on the highways.

p.s i am not a die hard hobbist or motorhead, like all of you so all the extra jazz you are talking about wouldnt interest me, sorry.

its a very good car in the troube free department, but if u ever want to make it faster u bought the wrong car mate.
even tho i have the same car i bought it for show not speed.

well like i said, i am not a motorhead or motorcar hobbyist, i brought it because its a honda, which means quality and reliability i suppose, i just want a nice car to take me from A to B with a little luxuries and i am a very conservative driver so definately not looking for speed,

but i must say the acceleration on this was amazingly good compared to my stuttering 20 yr old magna, lol

p.s however the brakes felt abit cushiony - whats with that?

Your brakes need a little bleed to remove air bubbles.

Just reading through your post, if cruise control and alloys were your only concern, why not get a VTI (which has cruise standard) and get some after market alloys on it. I did.

Dont always trust the prices of an insurance company.

Here are the redbook figures.

2005 HONDA CIVIC

7th Gen. MY04 GLI Sedan 4dr Auto 4sp 1.7i
Prices based on km 30,000 - 50,000
Trade in price guide* $12,600 - $14,100
National average price - private sale* $15,600 - $18,500
Price when new (RRP) $21,990

The new Civic is nice, but I LOVE 7th Gens!

yea i had a look at redbook but i dont seem to like redbook as they always quote less thats what i have found out anyway.

my budget was $20k max so if i went for new i would have had to add another $5k.

anyways i have the car now, i just picked it up !
but im still at work will post some pics on the weekend.

Redbook is just a guide. Real life prices are dictated by supply and demand. There is always a demand for 2nd hand civics as they are compact, reliable, fuel efficient and quite spacious. Unfortunately for the 7th gen, not many people bought them when new. That's why now their 2nd hand selling price is higher.

lol while driving back to work - which is about 5 kms from where i purchased the vehicle, i tried to put the stereo on, i didnt succeed in finding the on button, also i wanted to reset the trip computer but i didnt know what button to press as they gave me the car with a full tank of petrol, will try all this tomorrow.

Yup! That's the OBD II socket, all ready for scangauge2. :)

As for your chip, I'd just use touchup paint.

Do you have any plans for mods (eg rims or lowering) or gonna keep it stock?

hi, yea thanks, yes i like how the Honda looks, have driven it a little over the weekend, like the brisk acceleration, the things i dont like are, its noiser on freeway speeds than my old magna, and the fuel tank is quite small only 45L compared to my 60l for the mgna, so i will be going to the petrol station more often.

i dont intend to mod it in anyway, keep the car as is.

no u wont be goin to the petrol station more often

u forget ur car has a 4cyl 1.7L, ur magna prob had a 2.4L 4cyl and its heavier....

ull easily get 450+kmz from a tank from ur civic judging by the kind of laid back driver u seem to be

u can pull 7-8L/100kmz....even with the automatic...unless ur stuck in traffic all the time

oh btw....u deffinetley got ripped....

u shood have posted up here for some advice b4 u bought the car

i got my 7th gen 05 model brand new for $22k..and free paint protection

clayton4115
12-02-2007, 09:21 AM
yea well i also got tinted windows + paint protection + upholestry protection + cruise control all for $21k, all i paid for is the cruise.

anyways another thing i noticed was that when i am approaching a red light, and take my foot off the accelerator, the car slows down slightly then speeds up slightly again, the rpms also increase slightly, this all happens when i take my foot off the accelerator, is this normal ?
