hi guys, this might be a stupid thread as everyone has different views.

should i get 18's or 17's for my dc2 r???
i really want something different and in know exactly the wheels i want, there arnt that light for racing, but will do the job, my prob is how big, i will also most probably fit tein super street coilovers at the same time as i fit the wheels.

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

well it really depends on you, if you want 18s then get em, if your buying them from a wheel place ask them to put both the 17s and 18s on so you can compare?? IMO i'd get 17s

16"s are ideal for DC2R.

Id say keep your stock rims unless you plan to go for 16"...

anything bigger really wouldnt do any good for performance unless it's a totally lightweight rim that is also slightly wider...

but then again, if you're going for looks... hell why not go for 18"...

I know alot of dc2r owners going 18 then going back down to 16's.
Myself, just this weekend I went from 17's back to stock.

You lose alot of performance, tyres get really expensive when you go larger and the tyres you can buy are usually pretty crappy.

what rims did you want exactly?

i want simmons fr's in black as my dc2r is the limited run yellow with yellow seats build #80, so yeh, they are the wheels i want, its more for looks, and i know they are pretty heavy like most wheels, but i have ordered my tein super street dampers, so it will mostlikely be for looks, and i have also ordered slicks formy stock 15's

just cos u go 18" rims doesnt mean it'll look better. unless u choose the corect style rim, it will just make ur brakes look tiny. and thin profiles look crap imo.

13-02-2007, 03:54 PM
I'd go 16's with a slightly lowered ride height.

[SDCTVE]

ye well if you knew what the simmons FR style rim looked like youd know they look better in bigger sizes... they have a bit of dish on them, and they dont make the brakes look tiny! he wants black with the polished lip the smallest size they come in is 17's... the majority of integras have 17's..... so why not go for the 18's???

IEVAQ8
16-02-2007, 02:45 PM
sdctve, u know what im talking bout, but i think i will gothe 17 so i can have it sit lower with my coilovers...
tell me what you think

[SDCTVE]
16-02-2007, 02:54 PM
there wont be much difference in ride height cos ul be gettin lower profiles for 18's... you can either go
-205/40 for the 17's or
-205/35 for the 18's

keep in mind 18 inch tyres are deerer aswell.

but i know the wheels you got in mind, i was lookin at em myself, the black would look good on a yellow car.

ps. if you do go for the 17's you'l be saving about $50 on each tyre and about $100 on each rim, thats $600 that you could use on something else!

i have made up my mind, all day today i was thinking,17's are the way to go, prob woth wider tyres though, maybe 215 or 225if i can squeez them on with 40 series rubber.
i just have to decide what tyre to use for maximum grip on the street... any recommendations???

[SDCTVE]
16-02-2007, 03:15 PM
you wont fit anything wider then 205's on the back! unless the guard is gonna sit way above the tyre which i dont think it is! i got 205's and they rub on my guards when i take a corner abit fast, or have a heavy load in the back.

as for what rubber?? it all depends on your budget!
you can go for nankang for about $150 each to Pirelli's for about $250 each

where in melbourne are you from?

im mates with the guys at TTF thomastown if your in that area

in in seabrook, near hoppers crossing, what if i have organised to lip my rear guards, wont that improve the width that i can go in the rear???

i'd go for something closer to stock size, dc2r's look odd with rims larger than 16inch...

i see you said your going to put slicks on your stock 15's... obviously that would be for race purposes?

so when you change your wheels over... you may have to be constantly changing your coilover ride height! if you get something closer to stock you may not have to do this!

thats just my opinion...

but to answer your question... 17's...

turtleEK1

what would have better handelling and overall performance? 16" or 17"?

the width of the rim would the factor that determines the handling... but 16's would be better performance wise...

i had 215/35/18 on my dc2 and didnt scrub at all
just get the right offset and u can even go 19 if u wanted to

if you lip your guards yes, you can probably fit something a bit wider and also depends on the clearance of the guard to the tyre. you cant go too wide in integras, not like preludes

hey mate 17s are good for looks anything bigger for a teg is gay. i had 17s on my old teg and i was running tein SS as well, tyres were 215/45/17.

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/5702/dsc006374fv.jpg

well the back did scrub abit. but then again u got coils so u can set it to a stiffer setting like i did and maybe raise it abit.

18" Wheels on a DC2? You have to be kidding. Aside from it looking retarded and ridiculous (IMO), you are going to severely compromise the cars handling due to the massive amount of extra unsprung weight...

I'd agree with the others here (who have some idea) that 16" is realistically as big as I'd go on a DC2... unless you are planning on purchasing light forged 17" wheels... ($$$).

freakygeek
21-02-2007, 12:16 PM
so when you change your wheels over... you may have to be constantly changing your coilover ride height! if you get something closer to stock you may not have to do this!

205/40 17" is virtually identical in rolling circumference to OEM 195/55 15". (0.1% difference)

So why would you need to change your coilover height? The car's overall ride height will be unchanged...

thats just my opinion...

Opinion indeed, certainly no factual basis there...

he said 'may' - tyre size was also never mentioned by the OP... it's easy to choose the wrong profile tyre and unintentionally change your rolling diameter particularly on an 18" rim and especially if your a noob (afterall this is the noob forum). Buying things second hand or from a shop that doesn't know what they're talking about would also make this scenario more likely.

it's important not to end up with tyres that don't suit your application.

besides if a car has 15" rims standard the largest you can legally go is 17" in some states.

if a 205/40 on a 17" doesn't change the rolling diameter and that's the tyre the op will be getting than the point raised by turtleEK1 is a non-issue but I wouldn't go as far to say there is 'no factual basis' to what he was trying to say.

just something to consider for the OP :)
