I heard that japan restrict high powered cars to around 200kw, is this true?

I believe that it has been abolished?

But yeah they used to and may still do restrict cars... or at least say that they are restricted ;)

There was an unofficial aggrement between manufacturers that has long since expired.

Many cars that were produced were official labelled as being restricted to (I cant remember the exact power output) but was in the 200kw range, although when individually dynoed were in excess of the official figures.

It's not restricted. It's just an agreement. But it has been done for a very long time where manufacturers just state it as 280ps, while the car actually does over 320ps on the dyno stock.

Ok, say the car is an NSX which is rated at 206kw, so you mean the NSX actually has more power than that and that they just rate them as 206kw?

280HP was the gentlemen's agreement but like Aaron mentioned, it's all on paper only.. The NSX has 280HP stock on "paper" but on the rollers, it was 320HP..

The agreement is no more standing.. You'll soon see more japanese cars with more and more power...

Some manufacturers (Nissan) restrict their GTRs to 280HP with a restricter in the ECU, but on request, they will tell you which wire to cut to remove the restriction to unleash the "actual" power output...

Are most GTRs in australia chipped? How much horses can an unchpiped GTR pull?

280ps/206kw On hidden agreement between Japan Car Manufacture

On dyno, you will know the truth

I have seen a stock 34 GTR pulling 209 kw at the wheels at CRD.

Yes, 'rated'...in fact, the truth is they are rated around 280kw at the fly, it was just never 'released' to the public. Seriously, if the GTR 'only' had 206kw, could they really give Porsches a beating considering that the GTR's weigh couple hundred kilos more then say a Carrera S?
