Hey guys

Im wondering how much it is roughly for a jap import ek4 ?

Anyone know a place that can do this in sydney?

And whats the insurance like for these ?

I just want the b16 motor without having to go through the trouble of engine conversion and engineer certificate insurance etc etc

not sure if you can bring in a civic SiR.. unless it's a personal import..
as it's already out in the market here..

Hmm i thought if its an old model it be brought in even though it is on the market here?

I just want to trade in my gli but so hard to find a ek4 in dealer here...

Just saves me the trouble of selling my car and look for ek4...

The rule is actually a '15 year' rule but as it currently stands, only cars with a build date before 1/1/1989 are eligible (ie, 1988 or earlier).

should it by 1992 now?

Nah it's a static rule at the moment (not changing). This was a deliberate move by DOTARS in order to reduce the number of performance cars coming through (eg R32 Skylines, MR2s, etc).

It will last as long as you want it to last...

I tracked my EF8 SiR CRX fairly regularly and that had 250,000odd km on it...

Also tracked a BA5 Prelude that had about the same millage on it; that had heap's of problems, blew head gasket getting ready to stage at the drags, power steering pulley just came loose and jammed (making it impossible to steer), wheel bearings shitting themselves, clutch committed suicide, radiator imploded, CV's gave up the ghost, brake master cylinder started to piss out brake fluid, shocks craped out the list just goes on and on with that car; no doubt spent more than $10,000 on it by the time I took it to the wreckers, $500 here, $200 there it adds up after a few years...

Hell that car even caught fire once, but that was me de-greasing the engine while it was still hot :P

But in contrast the CRX had no problems at all; it took the abuse like a man...
If the EK has been reasonably well looked after then it should be reasonable fine; if its been neglected, things fixed half arsed or just ignored then you're screwed. But cross that bridge when you get there

Just keep all the fluids refreshed (oil, tranny, brakes, clutch and coolant etc etc) and it will be fine...

In reality you will still break stuff on the car no matter how good you look after it

On a side note...
You do realize that there is no insurance cover on the race track? So a daily driver that you blew all your money onto probably isn't the best choice for a regular track beater; nothing wrong with doing it occasionally, it should even be encouraged more.

Hi Roar- yes thats me :) so when are u gonna have another 20% off storewide again :P

Im aware insurance dont cover damage occured at track, or do u mean if u track ur street car and something fails on the street they wont cover u because u been at track???

But Im convinced to just get audm ek4 in the future...in RED! :P

as far as I know you CAN NOT rego a JDM EK4 in Australia unless it's a personal import (owned personally overseas for over 12 months).

the only PERFORMANCE differences are:
+200RPM Redline,
+10PS,
+0.2CR

so IMO there is no point importing a JDM EK4.. jsut hunt down an aussie version.
