I love JL!

Have had a fair bit of experience with various components over the years and their products are all top-notch.

The 12W0 is their base model and quite simple in design. I had one of these in my first car (about 6 years ago now) and it was awesome for a bottom of the range sub. It does what it has to do and does it well. Definately more SQL than SPL, but don't be mistaken...these things can slam it pretty hard with a little bit of power (not that you need much to run one anyway).

Fusions are pretty good performers as well. I just prefer the classy, understated look of JL products.

You can't really go wrong either way IMO.

*edit* one other thing, if it is the 12W0-4, and you get 2, just make sure your amps are capable of the set-up (the "4" indicating it is 4ohm) and that you wire them correctly and all that....you don't want to load up your amp too much cause chances are, if you do it wrong it won't work.

so JL 12wo-4 is a base model?

my friend reckons the power plant is a performer. he said something like, he came second in a sound off competition with it? lol.

oh, and i am only looking for a single sub, dont want hardcore, as i am just looking for filling sound.

my tweeters are ringing my ears off. lol

POID!!!! where are you!?? wyn told me to bug j00!!!!!!! do j00 know ?!?!?!

Can you up the budget at all to get yourself a W3 series JL? They handle much more abuse than the W0 series do. :)

thanks marty.

problem is, ive only got a tiny bit of money. i can get either sub for the same price.

i dont wanna spend plenty money on mad system.. i jsut want a filler sub, to equal out the tweeting from my 4 splits.

i mean, i listen ocassionally to soft rnb, asian pop/rnb, jap rock, so im not into that hardcore doof doof doofing, if u know what i mean. jsut want good sound quality.

which one out of the two u reckon mate?

thanks.

You might want to throw a few more into the mix too then.

Hertz HX300
Image Dynamics IDQ12
Phoenix Gold ZR12

:D

Fried basically has a budget of around $200-250. Which new/2nd hand single 10-12" subs would you recommend Marty? I believe he's running a Sony MP3 HU, 2 amps (specs I don't know) and 2 sets of splits front and rear. Eric, give them more info man. :)

xplode hu xm550 or something

v12 - 300 - powering 2 sets of 4" soundstream splits

pioneer ghm50 or something (which will power the sub.)

If you just want a bit of "fill", I would go the JL.

Like I said, I'm biased though.....

Perhaps go to a few shops and see what you like the sound of as everyone has different tastes/preferences.

Just had a quick look on the Doran site, and the 12W0 goes for $279 and the W3 is $479. They will probably do better or JB hifi sells JL gear at good prices.

My mate has powerplants subs, although they were highly underpowered. Still reckon they sounded sh*t. Haven't heard the JL's, but the powerplantds need a fair bit of power to get them moving. How much RMS you have on tap any ideas? You missed out on buying my alpine type r 12 for $170. :(

If the WO goes for $279 retail new (probably less for cash), is $200 a fair price to pay for a 2nd hand one in good nick?

a W0 is not a SQ sub IMO.
