Hey guys...when i purchased my euro a few months ago, the first mod i did to it was buying 20inch chrome. recently ive purchased some minor engine mods for the car, but was wondering how much of a power loss is it having heavy chrome rims. i was thinking of getting rid of the 20inch and go back to either 19 inch or 18 inch racing rims. but do you guys reckon i should keep the 20s on as its not much of a power loss?

Much help and opinion is much appreciated guys, thankyou!!

keep the 20s if your not planning on racing

Bigger wheels and tyres will mean heavier and causes slower acceleration. My guess 18 inch the max if you dont want to suffer loss of power.

Yeah It Will Be A Waste Of Money Of Getting Rid Of The 20s, Probabli sell it. But If Its Better To Go For Smaller Size Rims As 20inch are too heavy in performance wise.

20's Starr and Flash ride but lil slower

18's still a flash ride more range less to maintain lol softer ride

You want huge rims but still want power?

My only suggestion is to get lightweight rims like Volk or WedSports etc... But be prepared to shell out lotsa $$$ for it....

With 20", it's a big difference. My 16" stock car is faster than a 20" with I/H/E.

Weigh one of your 20" rims with tyres and report back. We can give you an idea as to how much extra weight above the springs that equates to.

Yeah I See If I Can Weigh One, Or Even If I Search The Weight Of It on The Net. But From What I hear From You Guys, I Think Ill Go Get Some 18"!! lol!!

If you want performance. But I think you should post a pic of your rims+tyres if you can't weigh them. Maybe we can use our weighing scale-vision. :)

LOL, that's dark. We don't need pics of your whole car. Just the first pic is ok. And that looks HEAVY. Probably heavier than your normal 20" chromies.

can anyone answer the original question of what the actual loss in performance would be like? obviously the car will be slower, but by how much?

A 1kg increase in rotational weight is about the equivalent to loading up your car with 7-10kg's worth of weight. That's the estimate...

So if each rim is 5kg heavier than stock, and the tyres are an extra, say 3kg, then that's 32kg all around. In terms of sprung weight, it's the equivalent of increasing your car's weight by 224kg. It's significant.

Do that in the introduction section please. In this model section, we try to help you with your problems instead. :)

What's your tyre size btw?

It's not just the weight that makes for a substantial power loss. With 20's the rolling circumference is much larger effectively lowering your final drive gear ratio and that makes a big difference in seat of the pants feel driving the car, and a real measurable difference in real world performance.

Nah, over here we have/try to keep the rolling circumference to within a certain % of stock. Otherwise, it's a defect. The usual tyre size for 20" rims on the Euro is 235-245/30 R20.

Yes It is....very low profile.

Yes It is....very low profile.

Then the rolling circumference is only slightly larger than stock. Your power loss is coming from the heavier rims and tyres, as well as the heavier concentration of weight further out from the centre, making it have a larger inertia.

I would say lightweight 17s as ideal but I wouldn't go more than 18 :)

With our roads in Sydney those tyres wouldn't last me a month without being damaged due to potholes.I'd lower it and just put aftermarket 17s on it.Little dif in performance/handling between 17s & 18s but big dif in price of tyres.just my opinion.:)

Euros run +55 Offset at 5 x 114.3 stud pattern, you can push +45 offset but no more than that, the wheels won't be flushed with the guards..

They run on 205/55 R16 tyres....

when i was shopping for rims for my Ek, a bridgestone senior tech told me:
the best compromise between looks and performance is 16" for FF cars

just my 2 cents :)
