Hi All!

Been on the forum for a while but still a bit of a newbie on a lot of things haha

Just wondering if anyone would know the legalities, particularly in NSW, regarding cluster conversions?

I'd noticed its a common trend for people to install type r clusters for example, on their dc2 or eg's. would there be any legal ramifications for this, and would the rta, or rego stations pick up on this?

what about in a scenario if your cluster was damaged, would it then be legal to replace it with a 2nd hand/new one?

and what about japspec clusters where the speedo would only go up to 180kms/hr instead of the 200+ we have here in australia?

do people get these certified by engineers or..?

been pondering about these issues for a while...

cheers

if it were my decision i would think it would be legal as long as the kms get wound to the same or u use the original and just change the interior face of the cluster... like ive opend mine up and inspected it for a colour change but decided not to cause its kinda taky unless i paint the speedo section a different colour aswell... would most likely have to get it check by an engineer or sumthing because tampering with kms is a serious game.

kinda like how people paint the parts they can remove across the dash board i.e glove box, hand brake console, stereo din all that bizz u know.

i don't see why it would be illegal for any reason as long as it's all calibrated and working ok. clusters do occasionally stuff up and need to be replaced.

however i'm guessing your rta/vicroads would need to know of the new km reading so it doesnt stuff up their computer records?
