Hi, just installed the mugen intake on my car yesterday. It looks great for outside also it can really impress me by what it done after testdrive. Firstly, compare to stock one, when Vtec kick in, the sound of mugen intake more noticalbe than stock one, and secondly, the power of Vtec kick in more noticable as well. I will try it more later and give more comment of it, thx!!
Here is the pic of intake on my car, cheers~

I don't try those of them b4, but i did research before i got mugen one, i think mugen one not a bad choice, though it is quite exp~

Grats on the mugen intake.

IMO if you got the $$ go with the gruppeM, best intake out there for the DC5R. Good throttle response and good power gains.

Mugen/Injen ?
Mugen => better response not much gains, so I've heard
Injen => loss of low end response (<3000rpm) but better gains. But heck I never drive under that. vtec FTW! :)

Currently running a injen CAI in my dc5r. Love it when vtec kicks in! loud as F**K

Actully Mugen and GruppeM one's price very similar, but in case of mine, I just try Mugen and stock one so far, no idea for GruppeM or other brand's CAI, but seem GruppeM one need to do some mod to fit itself on the Engine Bay, so I went for Mugen one, correct me if i am wrong~cheers

umm... its a direct bolt on like the mugen intake. the only difference is that u also have to remove the RHS cowl as gruppeM provide their own custom one... just like how injen provide their own custom washer bottle.... im poor as a mofo, other wise i would get a gruppeM... but mugen is still good though

Did you have any troubles securing the top section of the intake? I snapped 4 of the bolts ontop of mine because the top panel was so out of alignment with the bottom. Other than that, an excellent intake you will be happy with it.

in my case, it fits perfectly on my engine bay, even the install guide in Japanese, but its pic mention clear enough to DIY it. And yes, mugen intake just nice on looking and perfrom~ it worths of my every cent~

With stock front bar you are looking at less gain due to less direct airflow...but still better then stock.....if you use aftermarker front bar like mugen, Cwest....you will get better gain due to better airflow and also intake temp will be lower as well.....that make some difference.....but neways.....good choice......enjoy every moment of it.....

how loud is the sound improvement ? silly question but is it legal ?

dyljoy
25-02-2007, 10:32 AM
It would be louder than normal when Vtec kick in, below 6000PRM, it just a sleeper. and u not need do any big mod to fit them in, so i think u won't get trouble with it~

Max Power
25-02-2007, 11:26 AM
They are legal because they are an enclosed airbox :)

what max power said, as long as the air filter isnt open in the engine bay or the coppers cant see the air filter at all, you will be fine.

have you done a dyno of before and after with your mugen intake?
also a little ot, do you know the damper/spring rates of the Tein Flex? how do they ride?

It's RRP = $1300, but if you know the right people... or in truth.. if you know the people who don't overcharge.. u can get it for <$900 easy...

Oh ok so unless you get ur car tuned in a wind tunnel its hopeless aswell?

All CAI intakes are disadvantaged the same on a dyno in all reality, when driving air is getting rammed into the intake while on a dyno its not, but in all reality this is a very minor issue.

Adrian from Toda will tell you that injen is the best value for money by far and offers the best gains. All the crap about loosing bottom end is BS once you have the car tuned.

Mugen is useless unless you have an aftermarket front bar and even then its still not that great. Its purely designed to be very similar to the factory box so that it can be used in race cars due to the regulations cars are required to meet.
