View Full Version : Remove Rear Seat
is it Illegal to remove the rear seat on a DC2? To make it a 2 seater?
I'd like to removal all the rear, spare tyre, rear seat etc. I have no need for it as no one is ever in it.
Thanks

Yes it is. You have to have your car 're-classified' as a two seater.

Yes it is illegal to remove the rear seats to any car.
If you get pulled over, you can be fined and defected on the spot.
Add to my list of defects lol...

how do you get your car reclassified
im pretty sure it has get an engineers certificate/plate, then take it down to your local VicRoads or watever you guys have up there to be re-classified
imo its not worth it. if your taking it out for weight reduction, just take it out at the dragstrips or on the trackdays, but if your car was made for 4-5 seats you should prolly leave em there. not worth the hassle from the po po

yes you need to get an engineers certificate,
but leave the spare tire and tools in there. thats just stupid removing it. unless on short spirited drives:D or track/ drag events.
it makes the car feel totally differnt and once its out you wont want to put it back in except for the noise factor but who cares. its like driving a race car on the street:D

if ur em1 is the same as ek, its pretty straight forward. you either push the backreast towards the middle or outwards. Just make sure you be carefull. ass part folds up from the back and then wiggle and work it out:)

As people have stated you need to get is classed as a 2 seater. If you put them back in you need to get it mod plated to carry 4 - 5 people again.

My car is only a 2 seater, dc2r.
remove the rear section, go to vicroads, or your states governing body, then get them to register your car as a 2 seater.
they will try to give you hassles like holes to the outside, pertruding objects, etc. you have to remove everything that has got to do with rear occupants, seatbelts etc.
your car will be loud as a mofo, my car sounds like its about to fall appart in the rear.don't listen to anyone who says you should do this or that.
ppl should keep thier oppinions to themselves unless asked for an oppinion.
MoYa, do what you want, don't listen to others

Thanks. I was looking at this option because I know for my old motorbike I tried to convert it to a 1 seater, which followed the same thing. Needed to remove pegs etc.
