the kn fipk, makes a loud noise, like taking the airbox cover off, as far as power increase. well, its one of those things, can u really feel the difference, and where will u feel it. most probably in the back pocket

Yeh i was thinking of buying the K&N drop in filter.. modifiying the standard box like wat Adrian from TODA racing said which is cuttin out the separator and the tunnel in the lid and then i'll buy the Muz copy Spoon scoop..

auto-one quoted me $102.65 at trade price for the K&N filter... is that price good from wat u guys know??

I think this will be best bang for buck and wun be noisy and will collect sum nice cold air..

I will show dyno results when it is all done..

thanx guys..

I got the drop in filter as a gift, and all i can say is, its fcukn useless. Save ure money and get something worth while. Search the forums for other CAI, or perhaps another mod that might actually benifit ure setup. I also doubt this mod alone will even register on the dyno. I strongly advise research.

i personally think its doing a good job
feels a little better, revs a little quicker, vtec is a little clearer.

we all know that the S2K is finely tuned compared to other cars so i mean your not losing if you get a small gain in a s2K

the scoop sounds like a good idea and im happy to join a group buy with you on it!!!

there is another S2k with a injen system and he absolutely hates it...

lag off the launch, sucks in water and justdoesnt feel the same.

the drop in does no harm and you get just minor gains (at least they aint losses)

can be swapped back anytime in 2 minutes to oem i mea why not?

pm me when you plan on getting the scoop

I agree with u.. lets put it this way.. the K&N filter is better quality than the OEM one. thats for sure.. Also the scoop will collect more cold air compared to the standard mouth on the airbox... also the most important part is that there is sumone who I have worked with in the same company before he went and opened his own successful workshop, who also has 18 years experience with Honda's who says that this mod is the way to go after testing many intake mods himself... so i trust him and will at least give it a go.. seeing as though he was one of the first ppl to turbo charge a S2000 in OZ in 1999... he has a bit of experience..

we must remember that getting more power on the dyno is not always the main thing.. u want the power to come ealier, smoother and also have the car produce more torque earlier in the rev range.. that will already be a big feat in a S2000.. i cant talk for ppl who want noise, bling and other things.. but i just want more drivability in the hot weather, more reliable power and no noise.. had enough noise with my civic.. hahaha

i already emailed the Muz ppl... they are on back order and will be back in march.. I am gettin one whether there is a group buy or not.. but obviously if we can get them cheaper then the more the merrier..

at least i know i have 2 now..

cheers dude..

oh yeh also i must say that ur correct.. u wun feel nothin in power coz a fren of mine who had the J's Racing Tsuchinoko intake said he couldnt feel crap...

and it has been dyno proven here that it only has gains down low due to its big volume chamber but loses a lot of top end due to the large volume of the intake chamber... and it cost my fren $2000... woah.. but he has lotsa money to burn.. hahaha

i heard them 2 boys rev up their cars , sounds just like it does with the air box cover off , is it worth $450 is another arguement .
It gives you the great induction sound without the backflush / bogging of having the air box cover off according to the boys .

You can forget about gains and that with these filters . Marketing gimicks . ;)

Thats all good and well, but what does the K&N drop filter being pointless, have to do with J's racing intake??? The only thing the K&N filter does is save u $60 when the OEM would need replacing if that.

In regards to gutting ure box and adding a snorkel, why not.

How much is the scoop going to set you back?

im agreeing with u on the fact that it is hard to actually feel the difference with any intake mod..

well i ordered the K&N and it set me back $102.65

the scoop is pretty expensive for wat it is i reckon..

Muz wants $400 for it... and they are giving me a 5% discount so $380..

still that means this mod will set me back $502.65... the price of the K&N FIPK is $508.. but i dun want the induction noise and heat soak that i assume it will suffer from.. seems this car is just a money sucking machine.. hahaha

i'll see if i can source a better priced scoop or maybe just buy the original..

anyone know where i can get a scoop connecting onto the OEM airbox that is well priced..???

I can't complain about the K&N, definantly flows better then stock one. At the time i bought it I was working at Repco and the had a 'rig' from k&n where you could put on your stock filter and the new one, and visually see the difference in flow, it was like a vacuum kinda thing, with those little faom ball thingos.

Anyway, here my set up if anyones interested;

Hollow out the airbox and cover the hole at the back which leads to the resonator.

Shove in the K&N

Buy a carbon fibre airbox/radiator airguide (obviously rip out the old one that covers the AC service valve)

Looks fully schick moite:thumbsup:

Cost $300 bucks all up:D , better then spending ~$2k on a mugen one:p

hey IRI, what did you use to cut the plastic divider?

the only tool you'll ever need.... Dremel

Just gotta be careful, once you start cutting it seems to want to follow its own path... But I bought a second hand stock airbox, just in case i fcked it;)

Just wondering if its true? Do you need to put the K&N sticker on so that guys at the dealers dont do anything funny with it or something like that?

I bought the same kit as you did IRI, waiting on the parts to come in now.
Ended up getting the entire kit from import tuning garage.

works out the air filter will cost $120 AUD, made the payment when a local shop said he can get it for $99, though cheaper than Repco who was going to charge me $147 ... doh anyway I've learnt my lesson
