I have a problem with my Honda Integra DA9 series 1 (1990). A vibration becomes apparent in the car at speeds around 90Km/h+. The car has done 290,000K. I have owned the car since 240,000K during which time the car has allways had this vibration. The vibration is felt through the steering wheel, pedals and generally throughout the car whether you accelerate, decelerate or glide along in neutral at speeds 90Km/h+.

All suspension bushes (50+) have been replaced in the car. I have put on new tires (NCT5 195x60x14) on the existing TSW alloy wheels. I now have replaced both the CV shafts. The wheel balance has been checked by a variety of people. The car still has this undesirable vibration.

The car has had a wheel alignment (Toe in/Toe Out only). I do not have adjustable castor and camber.

Any ideas before I have the car crushed.

Have you looked at wheel bearings?

Check for general loose bolts/nuts.

Check your wheel hub nut is nice and tight (i.e. when the car is jacked up, does the wheel have freeplay?)

Have you looked at your engine mounts?

SiReal,

I believe the mechanic would have checked all of this but I will verify it with him anyway.

Stocky,

Engine mounts were mentioned. I replace some of them a few years back but will check anyway.

Also Stocky,

The vibration/shaking seems to depend on speed. I can glide along in neutral at 90Km/h+ and still have the problem. This eliminates engine rev's etc.

maybe its your alloy wheels/steelies. maybe they are buckled.

SiReal - I have 2 spare steelies with good matching Yoko tyres on them at home. I am going to put them on on the weekend and test. When I had the new tyres fitted, no mention was made that my TSW alloys were buckled.

http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58224 also had a look at a similiar issue but did not really conclude.

I have the same issue on my da9. So you aren't alone.

Are you using aftermarket rims? If so, are you using hub rings (hub centric rings, basically adapters to sit between your hub and the aftermarket rim so that they fit perfectly on-centre)

One of the things I have seen suggested previously are Tie rod ends

Thanks Rasputin,

I have TSW alloys which are aftermarket. I don't believe that I am using hub rings but I will check. Did they solve your problem ?

Well, I'm going to find out in around a fortnight.

Normally they'll cost you $20-30 all round, just go into a tyre/wheel place and ask them to fit you with hub rings, they'll measure up what you need and grab the right sizes. Unfortunately for me my rims are an odd sizing (on the inside) and so they'd have to be custom made, at more like $120 total.

For $30 or so you can't go wrong, and even if they don't solve the issue, it can't hurt. You really should have them anyhow.

I also have had another set of rims on this car, had the issue then, didn't have hubrings either.

Aaronng - Wheel balance has been check and re-checked, but I know what you mean. How about the suggestion of hub rings ? Do you concur ?

If your rims are not hubcentric (aftermarket steelies) and you don't have hubcentric rings, then YES! Get a fitting set from the tyre/rim shop.

Can confirm that the wheels already had hub rings on them.
