B16B INTO EK1 DIY SWAP QUESTIONS:

Hi guys,

Got the car up and running now, but have a few issues:

1. power steering
2. strange noises from distributor
3. Evap Canister / Purge Control hose to Throttle/Intake

see below..
--------------------------------------------------------------------//----------------------------------------------------------

i'm currently undertaking a DIY swap of a B16B (purchased from punhatch on the forum) into a Civic EK1 1996 (formerly had D16Y5).

I have a few questions that I hope someone may know the answer to. And I'll share my experience of the swap below.

CURRENT QUESTIONS (09/03/07)

1. POWER STEERING:

- Currently i have purchased a DC2 Power Steering Pump which mounts up fine. HOWEVER the feedline from the CIVIC doesnt fit. We decided to get a DC2 Power steering feed line, which is perfect for the pump but not to connect to the body as it is a different shape. Anyone have any ideas?

- What does the Power Steering Pressure Switch do? We realised my CIVIC d16y5 engine didn't have a power steering pressure switch (2 wires green and black) however i have this on the new engine. As i mentioned above i acquired a DC2 feedline, this has the plug for the PSP Switch.

2. DISTRIBUTOR:

- When we turn on the engine theres a continuous clicking sound that appears to come from the dizzy, on a friends ek4 this sound is a heap quieter. It does seem to dissapear tho when the clutch is on friction point. any ideas?

3. EVAP HOSE - THROTTLE BODY TO CANISTER:

- On the right side of the throttle body / intake. There is very small intake pipe that seems to affect the idling of the car. We believe that this is part of the Purge Control system. It seems that a hose needs to be run between the EVAP canister and the intake pipe to purge fuel vapors? On EK4 there seems to be a purge control solenoid but my car and the b16b engine doesnt seem to have it... any suggestions?

4. OTHER:

- Aircon: I got the aircon bracket from a del sol (p30) but it appears that only the right mount holes fit onto the aircon compressor. I had to use cable ties for the other 2. Does anyone know of a different bracket that will fit?

Thanks for your help everyone, hope to get the car complete soon!

you need to use any b-series shift linkage.

Any b-series starter motor shuld fit..

Make sure the intermediate shaft is an manual one..

QUESTIONS:
- Does the shiftlinkage need to be swapped? we have been told the links from a 94 – 01 Integra DC or 99 – 01 Civic VTIR EK may fit. However others say the current set can be used....

You need a set of B-series Shift linkages, preferably from an EK4, EK9 or EM1

-The engine was missing a starter motor. Which types will fit? We have tried a DC/ZC type which was slightly too small

You 100% need to use a B-series Starter motor.

- Which intermediateshaft will fit the swap? We have tried one from a integra vtir - but wouldnt quite go flush with the mounting bolts. Are we supposed to install it in a certain manner?

I "think"** the Intermediate shaft will have to be from an EK9

- Are replacement TPS sensors from other hondas compatible? Atm we are looking for a replacement unit on ebay :P Our b16b one can be unscrewed quite easily.

Pretty much all honda throttle bodies are interchangable throughout different series, so i think** you could get one from another engine, but you would have to make sure it had the same type of engine harness plug and stuff, like OBD2 or whatever.

** Thinking may actually be wrong.

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated... i had a couple more issues i've run into:

- The power steering pulley on the b16b engine is completely different from an integra one or my stock one. It doesn't have several grooves just 1 deep grove and therefore will not be able to run a integra power steering belt.. any suggestions??

- We realised by d16y5 engine didn't have a power steering pressure switch (2 wires green and black) will i need to accomodate these from the b16b somehow?

- A primary oxygen sensor was not included and therefore i need to get a new one... there seems to be heaps of ebay.. any idea if they are all the same? (4 wires)

thanks again
