Hi all,

I need to replace all 4 tyres on my Civic GLi (7th Gen). I don't really want to go to a larger rim size (15" or 16") because it will add weight and adversely affect my fuel economy and acceleration unless you guys and gals know where I can get a lightweight 15 inch rim (not more than 6kg per rim without tyre).

After some scouring the net for a high performance 14 inch tyre, the one that I feel to be the best option is the Bridgestone Potenza GIII. Has anyone used this tyre on a Civic, especially if it is a 7th Gen GLi sedan??

Are there any other high performance 14 inch tyres that I should be considering??

Thanks all!

Cheers,
Charles

Used it on my 2000 Civic Gli and Integra Vti-R before, good good good  . Doesn't need much warm up and you could feel the grip and limits are quite high. When it gets overheat and squeal, it lets you some time to correct your steer and throttle before spinning

It works not too bad on the track also, of course don't compare with semi slicks

Awesome tires; I used to run them on my wagon...

The best thing is that they don't screech when you're doing burnouts and make lots of smoke

I've had tires that grip better in the dry but the GIII's are excellent in the wet and really good in the dry...

Best overall I'd say

uhm... Yes smoke :)

OMGOMGOMGOMG Drew, Accords ftw!!

But G3s are good for performance, how about road noise? Are they silent?

They are completely silent but they are rather quiet. It really depends how much sound deadening your car has.

My wagon they were quiet but if you roll the windows down you can kinda hear them.

Lets just say quieter than most

From that photo you would never even know that it's a wagon :P

Might be slower than most cars down the 400m but it makes more smoke :D

Thanks Drew ;) I'll put these on the 'consider' list when searching for my 225/45/17s.

Try one of the traders- Race Nation had some pretty good replicas for around 600 a set or JDM yard had some buddyclubs and 5zigens last time i was there

Not sure how light they are though but I do know they are considered lightweight

S03s would be nice but i'm not really a millionaire lol. well, my car is a cruiser, so there would eb no need for such sticky tyres ;)

Yeh the GIII's are good tyres

but imo they are not better than Dunlop Formula's (which have been superseded).

my previous darling was a R33 skyline GTS-t series 2. I ran RE 01 and I simply loved the thread. Now that I have my honda, I put in brand new GIII and to be honest, I cannot complain. The thread that is on the GIII is very diff from the stock RE040 that my honda rolled in.Yes the RE040s are noted as great tyres but coming from a skyline, I trust that thread that re01s have. The GIII is great value for money.
check out Donnellans Boxhill if u are in Melbourne. Thumbs up

 totally agree....and they are not better than the sp sport maxx....

the perform quite well, but the bridgestone's can be more expensive for other tyres of similar spec....

e.g. gIII's in the size I need are usually quoted about the 290 mark where the majority of other contenders are around the 240 mark....if there is a $50 difference per tyre obviously that comes into consideration....

do lots of research....

there are other options like the toyo t1r proxes, yoki c drives etc....
