Hi,

I am looking into replacing wheels on my Euro. I would like to go from 16" to larger wheels 17 , even 18 or 19s, but at the same time I would like to have VSA uneffected. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

VSA monitors driver input via sensors in the ABS, drive-by-wire, steering and Traction Control and adjusts engine and braking output.
Fitting larger wheels will be a very similar overall size + width to stock. But the weight maybe slightly more per corner so the "drivers" reaction timing might be slightly slower.
So VSA will "kick in" slightly slower maybe ?

i guess it depends how you want to drive it; but im just wondering if the models with the stock 16 inch rims compared to the sport or luxury or LE models with 17 inch rims have the same VSA system? but yeah i agree with bennjamin with the overall size of the stock rims and tyres compared to aftermarket rims and tyres.. i dont think the width would affect anything? if anything the euro NEEDS wider tyres i reckon; which i am currently looking at getting myself (18 inch rim & tyre package) so all in all i doubt the VSA would be affected greatly!?

It will probably be the same VSA system...

i was told prior to fitting my 18x8 wheels that the vsa would not operate properly because of the change in wheel size.
i got to say that it was the biggest load of rubbish i ever heard.
surely changing to wheels to a much lower offset or even wider than 8 inch, would more than likely have a negative effect on handling though.

I've got 19 inch wheel and the car is very low and the vsa still works perfectly in traction control mode & stability control.

As long as the overall tyre radius is similar then it will be ok (and legal). You need to use lower profile tyres with the larger rims.

Calculate the tyre size needed for the rim size you want, to get a similar overall radius. Use the calculator here: http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/tyre_bible.html (thx actionman)

IMO get 17s.tyres aren't too expensive(225/45s) and the right rims are'nt too heavy.
