is there any problem if i remove the stock aribox from my dc5r and just attatch a air filter directly to my engine air intake pipe?......i know its common wif dc2's just wandering if there's any problems if done wif dc5r....
can do ... but its better if u get a pipe running to the corner of the bumper .. under the battery area away from engine heat

if you remove the stock airbox, the problem you will be facing is heatsoak. The intake will be drawing hot air from the engine bay and performance will suffer. only good it will do to your car is make it louder plus a fine if coppers pull u over and see your air filter isnt enclosed.
do your homework and do a search on clubrsx.com and clubitr.com.au
if you are going to mod your car, do it right the first time. it will save you time and money.
I would recommend gruppem, injen or mugen.

do it if u want.
my brother did it for his dc5r with a k&n filter.
and it is as loud as a CAI @ 6k rpm when vtec is engaged.
and heatsoak only effects bottom end, not by much.
but theres plenty of ventilation through the grill.
yeah you could do it, but even with a short ram intake like the K&N Typhoon, it still suffers from heatsoak. 45SET on this forum can tell you that from his dyno results. So with just a filter connected to the rubber tube won't do any good either.

obviously there wont be any gains due to the intake layout.
but after u hear the vtec cross, your all smiles.
yah...i bought a cheap ebay intake for my typeS, used it for 1 week and thought better of it, didn't want to risk getting caught, but the sound is phenominal!

If you take a good look at the grill there isn't plenty of air which comes through especially with the radiator in the way. Even if you have a mugen intake which has the air snorkle which is basically right behind the grill it is still very restrictive. The grill is the reason why the mugen air box is frowned upon compared to other aftermarket intakes, until you get an aftermarket front bar which has an air duct.

I'm with you bro.....save up for something worth doing rather then do it the wrong way and end up doing it again and spend $$ twice.....i used to think of doing that but end up save up buying a mugen airbox....remember you get what you pay for.....I won't do sth for the sound only.....

5Zigen makes a front grill for the DC5 that doesn't require a new bumper to make the mugen intake perform the way it should.

Hey guys, is it really possible to just add the pod by removing the airbox? Because i tried last night, and I noticed this hose that runs from the engine to the airbox. If i remove the airbox what happens to that hose?

its possible, but you have to remove the breather hose and replace it with a mini breather.... you can always try it urself to get first hand experience... its the only way u'll ever really know if it beneficial towards performance.... ive tried just attaching a pod to the end of the rubber intake pipe as well, and yeah, i totally agree wit wat tofu and Assets is saying.... as a recommendation, keep ur stock air box, buy a aftermarket drop-in air filter such as K&N, and use a little creativity, ull be surpised how good the stock airbox can be if u do the right things to it

I've got a k&n air filter, what sort of creativity are you talking about? =P Sounds interesting.. The sound isn't that great with the drop in, I tried the pod with a mini breather and the crossover is pretty loud.

Do a Hondata Air box mod and put a better filter in there. Proven power figures on hondata website.
I did this setup with a Spoon Filter. Works great, street legal, looks stock, and not to loud to make your brain go crazy on track days.
Hope this helps
