My friends DC5R has an ugly black number plate mount on the front bar.
How easy is this to remove? Do i just remove the number plate and un screw this mount off the front bar? Or would i need to remove the whole front bar off the car? Anyone had experience or know how to go about it before i attempt it.........thanks in advance. :D

there are screws.... just unscrew it.

once you do this tho... there is a screw hole RIGHT in the middle of the front bar.... so either live with it or get it covered and resprayed.

ahh cool, so the screws are accessible from the outside without taking off the front bar?
once removed, this hole you're talking about, won't it be covered by the number plate?

45SET

that is correct... just take the number plate off, and you should see one screw hole in the front bumper, once you take that one out you need to take the two in the main air intake out two.... these two are on a angel i beleive.

you'll also need to mount the plate somewhere else.

ian

seems pretty straight forward.
but you say that i have to re-mount the number plate somewhere else?
can i just re-mount directly onto the front bar? shouldn't there be two screw holes to mount it back on?
i'll fiddle around with it and sus it out.....thanks dude.

or cut the plastic, so it's smaller than the plate.
so you can't see it no more?

just get a numberplate relocator.
I have mine down the the front left. but i got to live with the hole in the middle.

you can just mount it on an angle where the black plastic bracket is mounted, but you need the slim style plates.

here is a pic of how i have my numberplate at the moment.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y123/45SET/Integra/P1020640.jpg

i have two L shaped bracets supporting the number plate. i also have the hole convered up. Tofu has his plate towards the passengerside airdrum.... you can buy these little kits off ebay and the like... or look at what they look like and make one yourself.

you can also see what tofu is talking about mounting it on an angel. if you look just above the plate you'll see 2 clips.... this is where the 2 bottom screws are for the original numberplate mounts.... YOU can mount the plate on this... but it'll be on a 45' angel.. and might be illegal.

FYI, for those that want their licence plate relocated to the front left and don't want to mess around with any DIY jobs, you can always purchase a plate relocator off eBay like the one [Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LICENSE-PLATE-RELOCATOR-01-05-HONDA-CIVIC-JDM-EP3-K20a_W0QQitemZ220086979670QQihZ012QQcategoryZ36475 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)].

Just to clarrify for all those that are considering puting their number plate off to the side, this is fine, however - if the plate isnt lined perpindicular to the length of the car, it will be deemed a defect.

Trust me on this one, first hand experience over here

Hey I got a type s, I was heart broken when i took apart the ugly massive chunk of black plastic(number plate holder) and found a screw hole. Ruined my plans. I simply bent the numberplate in half, used good double sided tape on each end of the plate and used that original screw that did that massive hole in the center hole on the plate. and it don't look bad at all.

cheers

I thought bending the number plate is an immediate defect.

the number plate cannot be damaged in any way shape or form, because the number plate technically is Government property.

Weird, my type r does not have a hole and I don't want to bend the plate so I use cable ties to secure my plate numbers.

It WORKS and it looks really nice.

Number plates cannot be on an angle to the centre line of the car.
If its bent, it could be defected, pending on the cop.
Like i said above, it has to be perpendicular (on right angles) to the length of the car.

if the the number plate is fitted within (recessed) the front grille, would that make it a defect? coz it would be slightly hidden, i would assume it would be?

This is what i have done, and been running with for the past month. No issues so far :D Only pissed off to find that massive hole!

As for relocator kits, just go to a hardware store and purchase a L-bracket

Where did you get that small plate holder from :O

When I bought my Integra it had the big, ugly front number plate holder. I tried a few different ways to improve the situation, none of which mounted to much (they were either uglier or deemed the car unroadworthy).

In the end I just left well enough alone, and after a while pretty much forgot about it. That was until on 2 occasions when having the oversized mount saved my front bumper from damage, when a couple of careless drivers got too close when parking their cars and collided with the number plate mount.
Luckily all that happened on both occasions was a small dent on the number plate.

When I was at my local Honda dealer lately I noticed that many of the cars on the lot had smaller, less conspicuous number plate holders designed for slimline plates.

If anyone else wants some more "detailed" pics, just ask. I have a shot from under the bar, but its a bit hard to get a good shot, due to the ride hieght of the car.

Enjoy :)

Thanks Robi. Would mounting the plate right in front of the radiator affect its cooling? Also, is it legal to mount the plates on the holes right in front of the radiator (eg. plate would be facing down on an angle).

45SET
11-08-2007, 04:47 PM
no one has tried to steal my plates.... they arn't that cool :p

mounting the plate there isn't going to affect cooling what so ever. Is fully legal also.

It only becomes illigal if you:
- Bend the plate to mount it
- Mount the plate so it isn't visable from a 45' angle

Someone has mounted the plate on the two existing mounts... but then the plate is on a large angle. If you want to moun the plate there, i would try and put something behind the plate so its still flat.

That hole that remains once the plates are removed,

What options do we have of covering it up? Without respraying the whole bumper.

m0nk3y
28-08-2007, 03:23 PM
you wouldnt need to respray the whole bump, i'm sure you could fill it up and paint over it

mdidle seems ugly, having it on stock bends it down.

that would look weird with just a screw in the bumper lol

i guess its easy to put the plate holder back onto the bumper when u want to sell the car.....

a more expensive way to get rid of the whole would be get a new front bar

i was thinking of putting 2 L bracket's attached under the right side of the front bar holding the plates, don't know how else to explain.. but would this be illegal. it wouldn't be perpendicular but close. it follows the point of the bar.
