Hi guys. I've recently had a front sway bar kit installed on my ek1. When I drove the car, I noticed that everytime my car went over a bump, there would be a squeaking sound. My mate who installed it installed the sway bar kit (whiteline) while it was on a jack and stands. We drove the car on 2 separate occasions after the installation and checked that the bolts were tight and secure. Any ideas what might be causing this "squeaking" sound? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

not enough lube, on the bushes?

Hahaha, first reply on both my posts JT...ur the man! :) Hmmm...Ben installed it and it looked like he used enough lube...if it is a lube issue, will it eventually go away or will we have to take apart the sucker and put more lube on the bushes?

hmm so need more lube...I'll give that a try. Oh and I have the front and the rear ek prototype from whiteline...handling is out of this world!!! Attacking corners, roundabouts, whatever I can, and there's minimal-to-no bodyroll to speak of!!! Very happy. And I will post up pics of the rear sway bar when i get a chance to take a photo.

The main offender will be the D bushes. Use plenty of grease on these.

Check and make sure the bolts are tight, loose bolts can cause squeaking too...

had the same problem before when i installed front & rear swaybars on my ex-track car. it squeak like a pig whenever i hit a bump. i gave them a good lubing and the sounds good although i still occasionally hear them when i adjust the settings to hardest.

like what the guys said, lub and loosen up on the bushes. At least its not as bad as the rear sway bar knocking against the exhaust :p

Thanks for the info guys. I'll give it a try and I'll lube and loosen the bushes slightly. And sorry guys I won't be able to take photos until the weekend cos I'm flat out at work at the moment. Maybe I can get some pics from wojtek and I'll post it up when I receive them.

A friend has just taken my car to whiteline and they have had a look. They have taken the bar off and are looking into it. They will be reinstalling another front sway bar and checking for the noise...so hopefully they can get to the bottom of the problem. The whiteline guys are tops!!!

Make sure you tell the Whiteline guys that the front sway bar hits the lower control arms.

One trick ive heard alot of people use to cure this common problem, is to rap the bar with that white nylon thread seal tape where the bar rubs the bushes. Apparently this does the trick, im yet to try it though. ive got no idea if you still use lube aswell, id say you would.

I used to get the squeeking, id re-lube the bushes using the white bushing grease, and a few weeks later it would slowly come back. So after doing this 4-5 times, i decided to try axel grease this has kept the squeeking away for 5-6 weeks, much longer than that bushing grease!

I also put clamps on the bar, either side of the bushes, to stop the bar from moving side to side in the bushes, which seemed to spread the grease around on the bar, to the point that very little would be left in the area it was needed, in the bushings. This helped quite alot aswell, now i can go 2 months + without squeeks before i need to re lube the bar.

It astounds me that more companys dont use a nylon liner in there bushings to solve this problem, seems silly to me!
