Howdy

The wife's '89 SX16 Integra has the famous idle surge from a cold start
2000rpm down to 1200-1500 and back up. She likes it, but I'm a tad self-conscious at the lights in the morning before it warms up! (it's fine after that)

After doing searches here on US sites I'm thinking it's a FITV issue.
Have looked for pics of exactly where the FITV lives on one of the '89 Tegs, but without much joy. Don't know what it's engine code is - think it's a 'D' series?

Not all that mech. minded, so any help would be much appreciated.
Eg. I need it explained/shown to me like a 6-yr old!!

Thanks

sx16 is the 1.6L - afaik code for this car is the da6...

Thus the code for the engine would be a b16a.
Can someone confirm?

D16A3 (D16A*'s were also used in such cars as the late 80's CRX and 93-95? Civic SI). The 86-87 D16A3 has a peak power of 90KW at 6200RPM and peak torque of 142NM at 5500RPM, the redline is at 7000RPM and fuel cut out at 7500RPM

Afaik, the only 1.6L in the DA teg series comprised of the b16a,
and the rest were 1.8L, B18A

Back the subject.

Man, i am not sure what causes this, but my brother's car, (my old car) has been doing it on and off for bout 2 years, probably not great, but it has over 300 000 on the clock, and it's just his kicker, so he's not too fussed bout gettin it fixed.

Anyway, point is, it doesn't seem to effect anything else, consumption is still around 8-8.5ltr/100k!

sounds like the throttle body could be getting stuck. Try a bottle of throttle body cleaner and clean the throttle body. There is a DIY in the DIY forum on this
