hey guys,

My 100k service is coming up real soon and i have searched this forum n asked around for a estimate price and have got conflicting answers ranging from 300bux to 800bux.

Car is EM1. Does anyone know how much it would cost to say doing it at Hanny's or Honda? ( New timing belt is needed ).

Cheers

u wont get a service and cambelt done for $300 anywhere.
how old is the car? coz cambelts are due every 5yrs or 100,000km... so the belt should have been changed on a time basis at 5 years if you hadn't done the 100,000kms at that stage.

anyway cost-wise for the cambelt alone u'd prolly be charged around $300-345

for actual service cost it will depend on the service history of the car.
once again the services are due on a time and kilometres basis. where has the car previously been serviced? what has been done the last few services?
cost will vary greatly depending on what is required. u may need to brake fluid, fuel filter, spark plugs, maybe air filter if you are still running oem.

if you are not sure of what is required or the service history of the vehicle get the workshop to list up what is required once they have seen the vehicle and give u a call with a quote so you can choose what you want to have done

hah lol $300 for a cambelt
The belt alone is around $100 retail or $40 odd trade

Takes probably 4 odd hours depending on the car at $60+ per hour
Some can be done in an hour or less, some could take a day or more

You might as well get the water pump changed at the same time; which will add $60-$100

No point forking out $300 for labour to get the belt changed only having to pay another $300 for labour to change the water pump

Prices and time obviously depends on the car

Service wise for an oil and filter change I'd say -/+$100
If you need spark plugs, brake pads, new coolant, brake fluid etc etc will all add to that

Most of the servicing I do hits around $130-$150, light trucks reaching the $400 mark more often than not

if it takes you a day or more to change any honda cambelt you are in the wrong trade lol.
he's asking about a civic, which is relatively easy whether it be the B or D series

Most Honda's are pretty easy to work with...

But when you look at things like Mitsi GTO's it's a mission to just change the spark plugs... or some older Alfa's there's two or three things that do the same job

Never done one but an NSX doesn't look all that spacious in the engine bay :P

your looking at around $600-$700 for a 100K service at hannys.
your best bet would be to give em a call.

Mate, just ring around.....

cam belt only costs about $100 bucks as mentioned previously. If they are charging you $300 just for the cam belt then they are ripping you off.

you seem to be forgetting the majority of workshops will charge 3hrs or more for a cambelt replacement

some vehicles such as preludes also have balance belts that need to be changed. there are also other things that require replacement that are not noticed until the job has started such as the water pump or leaking seals or even a noisey tensioner.

anyway like i said the car could need alot of work or it may not need much at all. find a workshop u trust to do the job and go there or at least ring around to recommended workshops and get some quotes.
find out what they include for those quotes or even just get them to quote on exactly what YOU want to be done (alot of people ask for vague quotes and dont even know what they include)

just remember that while it might be easier on your pockets in the short term cheapest is not always the best, but that certainly doesnt mean the the most expensive is either ;)

is it true you need to change the timing belt every 5 years? i thought only once the car hit 100k, i have a Honda Civic 7th Gen 05 Model

belt is $74
water pump is $267
while you there might as well change the cam seals and crank seal
cam seals is $14 each
crank seal is $19
rocker cover gasket kit is $105
fuel filter is $44
mtf is $13 each.
oil filter is $18
then your choice of oil, and then the labour.
= lots.
lol.

though if you want it done quite cheap, shoot me a PM.

I got quoted $450 to change my timing belt @ Honda Rockdale Sydney
would that include all the other parts to the 100,000k service or just timing belt?

it'd just be the cambelt. what engine you have? pretty sure that quote will incl replacement of the balance belt

is it true you need to change the timing belt every 5 years? i thought only once the car hit 100k, i have a Honda Civic 7th Gen 05 Model

Like mentioned before which ever comes first... Rubber/Plastic deteriorates over time so even if you've done 10,000km in 5 years it still needs to be changed

It's all the little things that add up...

A '00 Mitsi Magna 3.5L V6 came in this morning on a tow truck, one of the metal pipes going to the firewall for the heater core had a pin hole in it and was draining the radiator and the owner overheated the car

Pipe $80
Oil $25
Filter $10
Coolant $10
Radiator recon and new top tank $200 (top tank wasn't leaking but it wasn't far from imploding)
2 water cooling pipes for LPG Converter $10 (installer used fuel lines and they went rock hard and one literally fell to pieces in our hands)
Spark plugs $25
One of the spark leads was screwed thats $10 odd i think

5 minutes to change the pipe
nearly 4 hours to change spark plugs

So to change a $80 it came to a total of $600 by the time you add labour and all the little bits that you don't know need changing

I got quoted $450 to change my timing belt @ Honda Rockdale Sydney
would that include all the other parts to the 100,000k service or just timing belt?

Probably just the belt, to change the balancer shaft belt, water pump etc etc they should only charge you for the parts and maybe an extra hour labour

Sydsyd

don't think so.

yep, 100% genuine honda...$100 with installation, counted into my major service and timing belt change...all up around $600s

Rather than starting a new thread I thought I'd ask here. My car is due for a 100,000km service and I was just wondering what is exactly gets done and approx how much it cost (at dealers). Its so I can be sure they won't charge me extra for random unnecessary work.

The car is a 02 auto integra

thanks

Honda dealerships will NOT charge you for stuff you do not need. Speaking as a previous parts specialist/service advisor, you only get what u need, so trust what the dude at the honda shop says u need.

From memory a 100.000km scheduled service will set u back $700 or so.

It should include:

Timing belt: Replace
Timing Belt Tensioner: Replace (always replaced with belt)
Water Pump: Replace (always replaced w/ tensioner)
Acc Belts: Inspect
Rad Hoses: Inspect
Brake and Clutch fluid : Replace
Coolant: Replace

All from memory, so might not be as accurate as i think it is...
And under no circumstances should you re use a tensioner or pump to save money. 100.000 kms is the limit for those items, and not replacing them will just mean tearing the covers back off when either of them fails, and they WILL!!

Hey again,

I got a quote for 100,000km service at austral honda for my 02 integra and they said it was $280 (intermediate service). The timing belt doesn't need to be changed because its actually a chain. Also the water pump etc is not changed unless there is a fault.

Can anyone verify if this is correct? I always thought it was like what photonic stated above.

Just called highway auto honda at springwood and they stated it was a major service which cost $670.
The info is really conflicting but I do have a service history (from previous owner) with austral honda but its just so far away.
