Hi guys, more probs again...noticed something waznt right the otha day on my s2k. Im not the type who usually goes out and drives the car on the rev limiter all the time but the otha day i decided to give it a good hit on the freeway. Coming onto the freeway i noticed that when i took it past 6k rpm the power delivery felt broken....as if it was cutting out. Ive never had this prob before...power delivery has been really smooth in the vtec range but recently its felt like this....it was ok in 3rd and 4th gear tho i only had the problem in 1st and 2nd.......and ideas. could it be a fuel delivery problem maybe???

number of things.

Not sure about the f20c but for b series Vtec works on oil pressure as well. low oil pressure vtec does not engage.

Temperature-how long were you driving the car before you hammered it? normally wait for 3 bars. ( general rule)

Maybe one of your temp sensors are playing up? As above if one of your temp sensors are karked or just really dirty might not function right.

Doesnt sound like a fuel problem either, i was gona suggest that you put in the wrong fuel but you didnt mention it was pinging/detonating. Also do you experience cut off at any stage in the rev range? like limiter style cut off??

Check the engine oil level, if there isnt enough oil pressure, VTAK wont kick in.

[edit] fly beat me lol

maybe also try check the ecu .. see if it gives any fault code

i dunno wat it could be..oil preassure is good its duznt fully cut out its really like a shaky power delivery if u know wat i mean.....ill try and post up a vid but its really hard to tell unless your driving the car.

You are using Premium 95RON or 98RON fuel yeh?

The engine will complain if you use normal 91RON unleaded.

BOOSTD

ye i got the right fuel.....its really weird.....some 1 at work suggested i check the condition of the spark plugs. They said it might be the cause of the problem

EuroDude

Yeh if there is bad spark, the engine will stutter at high revs.

Check the resistance of the spark plug leads and replace the spark plugs.

Also check for water/oil/degreaser in the spark plug holes.

check your vtec soliniod ( im not sure if thats how you spell it ) is properly connected .

Also , could be a map sensor problem , and you will need to do the "Stop / start " cycle to reset your map sensor .

oh ok ill check it out.......my oil level was just under the full indicator - pre start...i was told that this was ok....is that where it should be?

EuroDude

yeh just under the Full mark is ok. That shouldnt affect the vtec pressure.

ye my car was perfect apart from clutch buzz. this is the only prob ive actually had with it. I do look after it well......and avoid 9k rpm launches lol. Im quite baffled by this tho....just gave the car a major service so im gonna try and fix this asap.

clutch buzz isnt really an issue , the clutch is fine . When you replace your clutch with a 01+ clutch , it wont be a problem anymore .

Trust me on my earlier tip with the "stop/ Start" cycle . A few other owners suffered from the same problem as you here , it wasnt oil / temp issues .

disconnect your battery , then reconnect it . Start the car and then switch off repeatedly 10 x times . I know it sounds crazy , but it works .
Also , you might want to give your map sensor a whack with a head of a screw driver .

deifinitely right FLY!!
if its not warm by 3 bars then it wont hit the vtec or power will drop staright after it reaches 6kRPM

if not check engine oil, the oil your using ... remember S2K use a very light oil, they use 10/30w or 5/40w.

if its neither it could be anything from solenoid, afm, 02 sensor or ecu... take it to a auto electrician

clutch buss is normal as well .. i had that in my previous clutch but after a fresh new clutch was sent from honda japan and was installed its gone ..

consider resetting the ECU by pulling out the fuse and pluggin it back in and let it set for 5-10 minutes without revving it or nothing

I believe it is your map sensor too. If you don't know what to do, just take it to the dealer and ask them to do it and clean out the connection.

my post is about as helpful as asking people on the internet why vtec doesn't work...

BOOSTD: why wouldn't you just take it to a Honda specialist? hannys etc?

ye i think i will...the only reason im asking you guys is to get an idea of what it might be....if it something small i can try and fix it myself rather than take time off and take it to a honda specialist. I really am greatful that every1 has been helping me out.

you should check the oil after starting the engine.

then if its just under the full mark ist ok

you will find it might be lower after a start up, but still shouldnt be the problem

have you been able to check the ecu for fault codes

have you ever noticed the engine check light come on while driving.

also just coz your engine oil is right, that does not mean the oil pressure is ok. it needs to be tested with a pressure guage.

90% of VTECH problems are oil pressure related.
