Hey guys looking and researching for a new CAI,
WHat are you currently using? and how much does it add?
from what ive researched they believe
AEMv2 gains 20hp
Injen gains 15hp
anyone shed some light on what CAI i should be looking for
heres 1 review i seen on AEMv2 : http://aempower.com/images/products/246106_Type-S_hp.pdf

Injen ~ AEM ~ Fujita.
They're all much of a muchness. We use & sell the Injen.
IMO the Injen CAI is by far the best fit, followed closley by Fujita.
Both of these come with a new washer bottle.
The AEM is prone to fouling on the shiftlinkages if poorly installed.
As far as output goes. There not much in it.
Each manufacturer claims theirs to be the best.
It's more about marketing hype than clever gains.
So I'd say buy the one you want.
It makes very little difference in the end as they all work quite well.

if you going for an injen, do a search for RBC intake manifold on clubrsx. It may interest you.

MAEN! so much money! hahaha i think i better take baby steps on mods or this gna burn my cash

If i was you the first mods i would do would be injen, toda headers, and 2.5 inch exhaust followed by a k-pro. Other things you could do would be PRC (JDM) Intake manifold. RBC is no good unless you have cams.
I have a 150kw atw dc5r and i am still running std clutch and flywheel. Rolling start the car beat a mates 34 GTR with only 135-140kw, altho the car was slightly stripped.
I/H/E and k-pro should see 135ish kw. decrease the weight and get light rims and u'll have urself a quick car :)

Injen is legal.
according to the law (well in VIC anyway) you are allowed one intake modification which includes cold air intake which may include a pod filter in the system.

seeing pics etc.. it seems the injen CAI comes wit a box?
prusso! wheres the pics!
I just lately installed Mugen Airbox, exellent response bottom end, but top end it does lack a bit compared to my friends Injen.
Good thing i like about the Mugen air box is it looks similar to stock and wont attract defects or issue's from the law.
But for the price of Injen, its deinfately good value.

Agree with u, Chi, happy to own a mugen one, but next thing for it is change a aftermarket front bumper to response the better result due to mugen design

IF you make that hole, close you bonet. you dont even see IT! OT air doesnt even go through it!

Instead of making a hole there, why don't you just remove the whole plastic grill? or making a new duct with rubber from bunnings that goes under the front bumper ? :D
dyljoy
19-03-2007, 05:29 PM
remove the plastic grill, is it legal?
eriktufa
19-03-2007, 05:52 PM
Why is it illegal? It's the grey plastic that I'm talking about.
Anyone can help here? I don't think it's illegal.

Well, do they even know there is a plastic there to start with?
I don't think cops are very knowledgeabe about cars and they will be more concern towards your filter, your exhaust noise & how low your car is.

really? wtf mine way uglier compared to yours! its f*kn silver
i plan to get the rocker cover red then the injector and heat shield black! but hey yours looks hot!
so thats stock DC5 heatshield and injector cover! !
DID you use the injen filter cover?
ANYONE got pics of the INJEN SRI?
mikul_ha
20-03-2007, 08:54 AM
theres no cover for the filter for the injen CAI
its covered by your front bumper and the fender guard. if you look at your front bumper and see those two little black grill thingys on each side, thats where the filter sits, right behind that.
heads up, if your gona do a diy on the injen, dont cut the fender guard as big as it says in the instruction coz its way too big. thats what I did!!! =(
hehe everyone wants the silver intake manifold cover but you want a black one?
if you want a black intake manifold cover you might as well buy a carbon fiber intake manifold cover.

Does all Dc5R and dc5 Base have the same CAI and fit on vice versa?
Mst_Mugen

appearantly not... u might wana confirm that with tofu.. i think his tired this out b4
XP02ED
24-03-2007, 05:30 PM
oh really
so if i buy a INJEN dc5 Base CAI, it will fit on a typeR and no performance loss etc?
there are differences between the TypeS/TypeR and the base/auto DC5.
- the hole for the sensor located further away in the TypeR/S
- the pipe size is the same, although the throttle body is larger on the TypeR/S but the rubber tube can be fitted either way.
the part numbers for the base and R/S are different
base Injen CAI is SP1470 (SP1470P for polished or SP1470BLK for black)
TypeS/TypeR Injen CAI is SP1477 (P for polished and BLK for black)
If you have an auto i suggest you buy the SP1470 (no difference between either manual or auto DC5)
This will save you from having to extend the wires for the sensor.
Also another thing to take note...
As long as your 06 TypeS doesn't have fog lights then it shouldn't be a problem.
the end of the pipe on the 05-06 Injen CAI is a tiny bit shorter because of the redesign front bumper and fog lights.
basically the 02-04 DC5 TypeR can use either CAI designs with or without fogs.
The 05-06 DC5 TypeS can use either CAI designs without fogs, but if you have fogs then you should get the slightly shorter 05-06 design to prevent crushing your filter.
But others have installed 02-04 Injen CAI on their 06 DC5 and they haven't experienced any problems...
**this only applies to non-base model DC5**

gruppe m apparently the beez knees for dc5's
cbf's reading 6 pages and may have been listed
GruppeM is Very good, but $$$$
I can honestly say its much better than Mugen, but the design isnt rain friendly.

Actually you will be suprised. If you know the right connections mugen and gruppeM is quite similar in price.
I am a Mugen air box owner and since I am now doing my own tuning and etc, I am slowly being convinced that the Gruppem is better. The IAT for the GruppeM is like half of what Mugen is at generally but I still have a stock front bar. Getting a aftermarket front bar soon with an airscoop, so I will see what difference it will make on the IAT.
I don't know anyone who has any rain issues wif the GruppeM and if you look at the design there is holes and etc for the water to escape.

There's no rain issues with GruppeM. Can't say the same if it's hailing or something, but the rain in Aus isn't that heavy that it will affect the performance of a GruppeM. Hosing water down the snorkel of GruppeM didn't seem to affect mine but with saying that, I don't recommend it just in case :p But if you are worried, GruppeM provides you with a rain cover for your snorkel which you can attach if you want to :)

28-03-2007, 12:26 AM
Also with Mugen, unless you have an aftermarket front bar, it's hard to say that you would get more gains than you would with a GruppeM purely based on the design of where the air is being sucked from. The OEM front bar restricts the flow of air for Mugen whereas GruppeM sucks on demand from the windscreen Just reinforces what Temp says and this is clearly shown on data taken whilst tuning.
Btw if you're worried that you need to cut bits and pieces to fit the GruppeM, this is incorrect, GruppeM provides you with the vital parts so this doesn't have to be done. Thought I might point it out cos I've noticed some people get the wrong perception :)
