I drive around in D3 in the 50-60 K zones as she always wants to change into 4th around 60 and I figure that's best but I could be totally misguided, expert comments appreciated!

Samo,
At 60 Ks in 3rd gear I'm at 2500-3000 RPM not really excessive I would have thought, but I'm used to three speed column shift Holdens! LOL

Aaronng,
I have D3 and D4, so just leave it in D4 all the time?

Yes.
You know how it works, right? 1 means it allows 1st gear, 2 means allows 1st and 2nd, D3 means 1st, 2nd and 3rd, while D4 means it allows all 4 gears.

Use D4 all the time unless you are going up a steep hill and want to limit to the lower gears (put it into 2 to allow 1st and 2nd gear). Also if going downhill and don't want to burn your brakes, you can also put it into D3 or 2.
