Guys,

Went over to NZ on the weekend and just bought a very tidy 97 Civic SiR hatch. It is an Auto though. Does anyone on this board have an 4spd Auto B16A? I have left it there for my wife who will arrive in two weeks but..

I was very surprised by how quick it was and by the grade logic gearbox (going down a hill and you brake for more than about 3 secs it kicks down a gear for engine braking and holds the gear until you hit the accellerator again). It also turns a comfortable 2900rpm at 100km/hr making it much more user friendly on the highway. Has all the usual jap features, climate, twin airbags, nice interior, ABS.

Saw some very nice civic type Rs, integra type Rs and even a Euro accord type R (00 model previous shape with full recaro interior). Man there are some nice cars over there and some very dodgy ones!

It is an SiR HATCH EK4. I saw a couple of other auto SiRs there as well. There were also EG9 and EG6 autos for sale over there too.

So no Autos released in Aus?

It definately suits the Auckland traffic which is a b1tch! Seems to have a much tighter torque converter compared with holden etc. Doesn't sound like a typical slush box. The main thing I was surprised at was how strong the low-midrange is. Peak revs are reduced to about 7800 (600rpms lower than manual) and they definately have different cams. Quite happily peels both treads off the line when you put your foot down in drive from a standstill.

Wonder what the times are like vs manual not that I care too much as it is a temporary runabout until we get settled.

Not planning on bringing it to Aus as it is only a runabout for NZ, I am moving to NZ. I will however bring back the JDM ITR, CTR or Accord TR that I will buy when I move there for good as a full personal import (Aus citizen, must own car for 12mnths in foreign country).

No EG's were released in Aust with a b16a, let alone an auto b16a :)

They import 170 000 used Japanese imports pa. You wouldn't think it had the population to support that many cars!
