i got a 94 Vti hatch with a dead power plant and was planing to drop a B16A in. Question is can i use the existing wiring harness and computer or does that definately needs changing? reason i ask is because i can get the b16a2 engine and gearbox only for $1500....can i save money on doing this or do i need the front cut?

whats the cheapest way for this to happen?

depends on wiring harness, if its obdo, obd1, or obd2. As the connections for the ecu and distributor may differ, as well as the number of o2 sensors.

just need matching computer for b16a ... need new engine loom for wat ever it is .. obd1 or obdII .. only from eg/dc ..NOT ek

then add wires done

i have same car and using obdII motor and engine loom with stock vti dash harness .. just add few wires and P72 ecu

im only refering to wiring/ ecu side ...

still needs a few other random parts of cos

depends wat the package come with .. like linkages , manifolds (int. & exh.) etc etc ..
could add up quite a bit buying things seperate

Hi

you have to add a few extra wires but you can use your esisting loom if you have a EFI car

pm me your email address and Ill email you wiring instructions for OBDII,

I can modify your D15B7 PO6 ecu to run the B16A.

look for the B18C into EG DIY I made to get a general Idea of what you have to do, same applies for B16A

I did JDM B16A into 94 VTi..

I retained the EG5 chassis-side harness and used the JDM B16A engine harness.. but the JDM EG6 has MAP sensor on the firewall.. so u need to hard wire the MAP sensor to the ECU and also the O2 sensor will require correct re-wiring.. i have it somewhere but ECU-MAN is the man to help you on that one ;) though he's prob tired of it by now hahaah.

as for the ECU yes you CAN run the B16A on a P28 (D16Y1) but as for your AF ratios etc is not nescesarilly safe.. I used the P28 on my swap before i had the P30 ECU (JDM B16A) just to drive from point to point (roughly) however if you intend to keep that ECU i'd recomend getting it chipped with a suitable program for B16A.

thanks guys for the replys..i now have some more problems, that B16A i mentioned earlier is now a block and head ONLY! i was told false information. i guess i need to find a 1/2 cut now. how much do they go for? do i need to change my drive shaft and stuff?? basically i want to know wat needs to be changed on my civic 94 vti hatch to accomodate this new B16A

hahaha basically you only keep the firewall engine harness, throttle cable, a couple of the mounts and that's about all.

best option for swaps to minimise chance of nervous breakdown and or spending hundreds more on labour is to get a front-cut.

if your car is 94 spec then you need to get a front-cut that is the same age or newer. in most states it is illegal to fit an engine older than the chassis.

when you get the front cut you should get everything you need including:
engine
gearbox
shift linkages and shifter
engine mounts and brackets
axles (b-series uses 3 identical-length axles, D-series uses 2 asymetrical axles)
engine wiring harness
ECU
radiator + hoses
alternator + brackets
power steering pump and hoses

that's why is best to get a front cut so you get everything you need so you arent running around for months trying to find the parts then taking the parts back and swapping for the RIGHT parts etc hahaha

hmmm well i guess i better start looking for a front cut as i figured that its quite rare. worse comes to worse i'll just rebuild the damn D16Z

nah man it's cheaper to do a swap that rebuild the D-series ;) you looking at at LEAST $3k to rebuild a motor. mind you a rebuilt motor should be good for another 100,000kms however a swapped motor will always have an unknown factor of it's previous life and condition.

yeah thats wat im a bit worried about. how much is for a front cut from an EK Vti-R anyways?

front cut for AUDM is roughly:

OBD1 B16Axxxx either A2 etc. half cut $2500-3500 depending on the condition and k's of the engine.

i got myself the hardway - i got the JDM B16A engine with 60thou k's,engine loom, ECU with power steer,AC Comp, Intake pipe etc for $1500

but i had a hard time looking around for parts .e.g Cable g/box with close ratio(i maintained the cable g/box), driveshafts and input shafts, DC2R lightened flywheel and new Exedy racing clutch and all the other bits and pieces e.g. engine mounts etc.

the list goes on...as i also changed the water pump, all belts, sparkies, oil etc **this is mandatory when buying a half cut or engine only from importers***

basically the whole thing and labour to install cost me $5g's. - i know i could of got it cheaper but i was in a hurry as i cant live a day without a car!!

ADVICE
shop around and best bet is a half cut.
