okay ive just been reading this forum, apparantly i can get a 'head' for my
D16Y4 and itll be pretty much same as a vtec... ive got questions:

1) the current D16Y4 is pumping 88KW, the VTEC version of me runs 92KW which is 4KW??? does this make sense or am i wrong, is it 92KW on the fly and 88KW is another reading???

2) im wondering from the links ive seen and write ups they dont mension changing the ecu ... is this right?

3) where can i get the parts, and is someone out there good/cheap enough to do it for me if i decide to leave it for a pro...

4) ive got an engine back exhaust system at the moment, will this increase the vtec performance???

thanx in advance guys...

1) the vtec version of your motor is called a d16y8... and the figures are 88Kw at the flywheel for the d16y4 (the motor you've got) while the d16y8 has 92Kw...

but if you do a MINI ME, which is swapping the vtec head onto your non-vtec block... you bump up the compression, have vtec and therefore= more power! so the idea is (with the perfect block and head) you will infact have more than 92Kw at the flywheel!

2) you will have to change the ecu... for your d16y4 ecu doesn't have vtec ports to support it...

3) research for parts and someone to do it... its been done plenty of times... check out some honda wreckers for the bits!

4) your exhaust will increase your performance no matter what d16 motor you put in it... but will again increase your power figure from what it would be stock... a high flow intake would also assist in power...

hope this helps!!

search www.honda-tech.com for mini-me conversions. No doubt there will be a guide for doing it or at least a list of everything required to complete this conversion.

thanx fellas, that helps heaps, but man i was hoping on finding something which didnt require ecu change its why i avoided turbo setups... ecus are so da*n expensive :(
