Hey there, just wondering, i heard from mates that getting cams alter the idle noise of ones engine.

is this true ? if so, how much louder/harsher ??

depends on how agressive the cams are... but lets face it, your talking about a 4cyl not a v8 :P

cams do not make the engine noisier or harsher, they alter the smoothness of the idle abit.

like make it a bit lumpier, lumpy 4s sound so nice!!
i heard a gti with lumpy cams and i want cams just to get mine to sound like that! lumpy 8 sounds like arse compared to a lumpy 4.
not harsh just nice.

yeah and the lumpiness depends on how aggressive the cam profile is.
lift and duration etc.

they will alter induction noise if you have a pod... perfect example... VTEC cross over.

i changed the angle of mine and it changed the sound ov the revs after about 3000 sounds heaps better

prob means timing or duration.

the overlap is what gives you your induction noise. I saw a 86 integra once with the valve timing set wrong. it was awsome to listen to but whent like a bucket till the revs got up.

You can't change duration unless you change the cam profile itself. I presume he's reffering to the timing :?:

no you cant change the duration but if the valve timming is worng you could change the overlap ie the time the intake and exhaust valves are open simaltaniously. this is a mechanicle thing and ignition timming has nuthing to do with it.. I dont recomend you do this either.
