which setup would you guys take if you had a budget of approximately 12k

with 12k u could only get ek4
eg b18c (not type R) just go over ur budget
and eg k20 engine alone and labour would reach ur budget

You might just be able to afford a k20 with $12k but it would be getting close. The b18 is achievable and you could get an ek4 with a fair few km's for that sort of money.
