eg hard to start when petrol low ?

Hey guys,

just bought my car a few weeks ago and ive noticed that when the petrol gauge reads that when theres about 1/4 left of petrol in the tank the car is hard to start.

the engine will crank for a few seconds before it starts.

when the tank is full the car starts no problems.

i also thought i could have a dodgy fuel gauge but with 1/4 left i got quite a few kms from it(guessing around 100 or so) before the fuel light came on, so i kind of ruled out that there wasnt much left in the tank and my gauge wasn't broken.

any ideas ?

and if it helps its a 94 vti with 190xxx kms on it

change the fuel filter as it might be old and restrictive.
It seems to be normal for a EG or any car to start when the car is excessively low. BTW the fuel gauge isnt very accurate so dont worry too much
