so iv been reading about intake manifolds... most people regard such a mod like a after market exhaust upgrade
iv searched around a bit and cant much info on gains etc or which ones are good etc, i read a lot about the skunk2 stuff... aparently its pretty good
i also read that upgrading the fuel rail improves things, and oil catch cans etc
how would upgrading my intake manifold improve things for me... and do i need to worry about the fuel rail and oil catch? what does improving these things do for me?
i saw this and was just like wow... what is all the braded lines for? and the meters near the fuel rail?

also if you upgrade the intake manifold do you have to do the throttlebody or anything else as well?
i am very hungry to learn
Bigger Throttle body is needed to maximise the air flow
With bigger throttle body , if you only running stock intake manifold or type R one , matched port is needed.

what does upgrading your intake manifold actually do for your car?
what does adding a oil catch can actually do for your car?
what does upgrading your fuel rail actually do for your car?

what does upgrading your intake manifold actually do for your car?
it allows much more amount of air and capacity to your engines combustion.
what does adding a oil catch can actually do for your car?
as the word says "oil catch can" any overflow of oil flowing to the intake pipe to be "caught" in the can or split the oil/air - oil in the can and air back to intake pipe --> throttle body.
this is great for turbocharged cars as high amounts of boost pressure can cause oil flowing to the intercooler then to throttle body - creepy bastards!!
what does upgrading your fuel rail actually do for your car?=)
Upgrading your fuel rail really just allows more amount of fuel to be stored in the fuel rail then to injectors - bear in mind better fuel pressure & flow too and is great for high performance capacity fuel injectors.
Mix and match the bigger throttle body & fuel rail plus bigger injectors will give u a better air/fuel mixture = more power!! - obviously u need a programmable ECU to control these factors and have bigger injectors.
if anyone else can provide a better technical response please do so. ...i tried to make mine as nooby as possible!!

wow good info thanx
in what order would you recommend such mods...?
i still need to do my intake and exhaust, should i worry about them 1st? also does a oil catch can setup make a big difference in an n/a car? is it worth it?

best advise is do your exhaust first even justa CAT back system, then do your air intake .e.g Air filters or go the hardcore stuff like CAI - Cold Air Intake or Short Ram all with Alluminium piping.
then decide if are in the need of more speed...as bigger Throttle Body, Fuel Rail, Injectors and a mandatory a piggy back or full progamable ECU all this will cost ya a fair bit.
Seriously - oil catch can only helps if your going forced induction, but can be amusing to the eyes for NA. - in otherwords its more for bling bling on a NA, unless your running serious HP and have oil/air pressure issues.
I wouldnt bother upgrading to a larger fuel rail, i dont believe there would be any worthwile advantage unless you were building a pretty nuts engine, save your money for mods that will increase performance.
If your just doing mods like I/H/E, it would be a complete waste of money to upgrade your fuel rair and injectors. Dont bother with any mods to the fuel system until there needed.
