With this sort of work, I wouldn't DIY. Instead I would take it to a professional and get it done right the first time to last the life of the car as well as paint matched properly.

^^^ What he said, unless your gonna be using 2pac paint and spray gun then I wouldn't bother doing it DIY. If you're gonna be spraying it straight from a can from supercheap auto or something like that the colour might not match, where as if you take it to a pro they'd be able to match it.

Yes you would need a primer, when i did my front grille I wetsanded it back a little bit then sprayed with a plastic primer. After the plastic primer i used a base coat primer then the colour. After all that the colour didn't match all that well and i was disappointed, so now i'm gonna either be getting a pro to do it or gonna get some 2pac paint. I was quote about $150 for everything I needed and this would be enough to cover front lip, sideskirts, door guards, front grille rear bumper and front bumper (from memory he said it was about 1L all up).

A clearcoat is a must, it protects the paint. If you get light scratches on it then it'd just be the clear that's damaged which can be fixed up with some detailing.

A primer is used for 2 reason, firstly it gives the paint a surface to stick to. Secondly it gets whatever you're painting to a nice even colour, basically a blank canvas without discolouration.
