Hi,

Im buying CIVIC EG with JDM B16A engine conversion done.
it was from a halfcut. the conversion done with all the EG6 dashes on it.
I found out that it eats quiet abit of oil.. is it natural for a B16A engine?
and some oils on the valve cover not dripping just abit of markings. is it normal?

what other things that i need to look for?
considering the chasis '93 GLi, and the odo reads 130.000 kms

thank you

do a revs check on the car
yes its normal for it to eat a bit of oil wen u thrash it
valve cover gasket could be gone causing it to leak out a bit

a healthy engine shouldnt eat any oil.. how much oil are we talking about? is it smokey? while ideling/driving?

if your worried about any leaks give the engine a clean with some degreaser and a rag, then take it for a drive, let it sit for abit and check it again.

engines in general will show wear and tear over time, so check out any other leaks undernearth or seal if any of the rubbers are cracked like around the driveshalfts. also the engine mounts as it was a conversion. the speedo could of been from any civic, so unless you know the seller personally, i'd be careful.

Idle no smokes or any thing,
but some smokes are coming out on high rpm arround 6-8K .. i think thats quiet normal :p my accord smokes on 5-6k rpm LOL ...

i was told that the speedo come from EG6 so i was thinking is the original KM's on the engine it self.

how do i check whether its B16A gearbox ?

thx for some advice

how smooth are the gear changes.. does it get sticky/stuck??? and does it crunch when you change? if so the gearbox mite be worn out.. changing the gearbox fluid does help and will extend the life of the gearbox. i use the redline lightweight shockproof oil..expensive.. but good. let me know if you need any

My b16a doesn't eat any oil and doesn't shoot any out the back.

You may need to replace a few things (pcv valve, spark plug rings etc to start with.)

My engine is pretty old itself and its not burning any oil. Smoke coming out at high rpm would be considered normal, as stock ECU tends to run rich at higher revs.

And when you check if your gears are crunching make sure your at high rpm (redline) aswell.

i tend to give my car hell, and still no smoke at 6-8k rpm... and oil level is fine, mine doesnt chug oil..

but it's also kinda got low km's too.. but engine runs sweet.

Black/grey smoke is ok. Blue/white smoke is not good.

most vtec engines use a bit of oil when in high revs. i see dc5 type R's booting up the highway with a bit of smoke

all vtec engines ive seen kick out abit of smoke while gunning it.. its usually just 1 puff.

just stick to the honda FEO oil which is 10-40 im pretty sure.

When booting it, the smoke is not oil burning, but the A/F ratio being rich.

thats true. and it could also be the weight of oil being used, sparks plugs. etc. how many km's has this eg6 engine done?
