Hey, im new to ozhonda

i recently bought a civic Vti. Now the guy i bought it off said its a 93 model and its registered as a 93 model. But Vicroads say the car is a 91 model, and the guy did mention it was an import. Ive read the thread about the diff types of civics and mine ddoesnt really come under any of the types there. There is no 1991 civic that looks like mine. The car is an EG4 and it looks like the 93, 94 civics. I kno its a Civic Vti, but mine doenst have a sunroof and the engine is a D15b.
Would u say my civic (imported) isnt as good as the aus ones?

im guessing a D16 engine would be better than the D15b. Im jus not sure wat kinda engine i got here. I kno it SOHC so its no monster, but does it have potential?

As i said im new to the forum so pardon me if this is a nub question. :)

The Aussie Gli Civics came with the 1.5L engine and no sunroof. So perhaps your Civic is a Gli as well. Or maybe they used the 1.5L for the Vti overseas (I'm guessing Japan)

And yes the Si (DOHC) and Vti (SOHC VTEC) 1.6L 96kw engines are more powerful than the 1.5L. You will need to turbo and stronger internals to get decent power.
Or you could scrap the D15B and put a B16A / K20A in, but thats an expensive task.

The EG's were released in 1991 overseas, they didnt come to Aus until 1992.

Thanks for the reply

I guess in japan (or whereever it was imported from) it came out as 1.5L vtec. Coz im pretty sure its not a gli. Gli doesnt come Vtec does it. So yeah, my engine has VTEC on it, hence the Vti.

Ive seen some D15B engines go pretty good, but then agian prolly heaps of money wouldve been spent on it. I duno how much itd be for an engine swap, but i don think its worth it for this car. I gues ill jus see how i go.

Thanks for the info.

The early JDM SiR's actually came with D15B's believe it or not. I've got a mate who's got a D15B SiR. 91 model with completely different boot (no wooden cover or disgusting grey carpet...full quality plastic cover with release lever!), drink trays etc. Which revs to 8500rpm, and has a white face for the cluster.

If yours has any of these characteristics, then it's an early model SiR.

Also, if it comes with a factory LSD, then that's a dead ringer for an import JDM SiR (early model...can't stress that enough).

This thing boogies around corners lol

does your engine bay have a little blue tag bolted/ pop rivited on to it.. either on the radiator support bar or on the firewall? if it does its an import.. its the compliance plate.

Does it have VTEC written on the valve cover?

EG4 and EG8s(The ferio) use the VTEC-D15B engine, with a displacement of 1493cc it develops a high 130ps at 6800rpm with max torque of 14.1kgm at 5200rpm. Thats the SAME as a d16y1 but from a 1.5L

Yeah it has that blue tag, the compliance plate. It does have VTEC written on the valve cover. Umm yeah the whole boot is plastic, thers no wood in there. It has a first cover that u can pull up and under than is a little extra compartment, THen under than compartment is the spare wheel. No wood.
its got drink holders as well lol.

dno if its LSD lol. maybe have to rip a burn out to check, or ill get it check it next time i go mechanics.

Basicly, you got a smaller engine, with the same power as an aus spec ont. U got better things on your dash, like i think it shows u which door is open on your dash

if it's imported and says EG4 and has a D15b engine it's a JDM spec VTi
more power than the AUS spec D16 engine so it'll be better than the AUS VTi
yeap and looks like u got the good old JDM rear interior nice car dude
how much did u pick it up for mate?

That Dash looks pretty much exaclty the same as mine but it doesnt have that thing to tell u if a doors open.

I bought it for $5900. Was originally 7250, got the guy down to 6500. THen we saw it needed new tyres, which would be around 600 or so. so he put it down to 5900. Done deal :D

Its a nice car.
Thanx for ur info guys. helped heaps. now i kno exaclty wat car i have.

I think your mate has a normal civic. With a JDM interior, SiR EG6 Cluster, and a D15b VTEC.

Hecktik 91 SiR!
