Hey guys,
My dad broke the coolant bleeder bolt/valve by overtightening :o
I was just wondering what the thing it bolts into is called so I can ring around for it.
Refer to pic.
Cheers!

as far as i can see from the service manual this part is not actually named.
i think your best bet would be to ring a dealer (even if you dont intend to actually buy the part from them) and say that youre after the part of the cooling system that has the drain bolt, and attaches at one end to the block, and to the upper radiator hose at the other.
i think they would be very likely to understand what you mean
also - the likely cause of the break isnt so much over tightening, as tightening with poor technique - too much sideways pressure, rather than in the direction in which the socket is meant to be turning.
i made a similar mistake installing an oil pressure gauge.

Yeah it was probably poor tightening technique come to think of it...
I'll give Peter Warren parts a call tomorrow to see if they know what it's called, then see if I can find any at wreckers. Just hope it's not too dear :(

radiator hose upper connection to cylinder head
or.
coolant bleed valve housing on cylinder head.
is what i would call it, and so would alot of work shops really.

fellaz its called the "Water outlet cover"
could have been mistaken for a "Thermostat Bell housing"
if correct +rep homie!!! :p

fellaz its called the "Thermostat Housing" as the thermostat comes in different size and forms.
some people call it also as "Thermostat Bell housing"
if correct +rep homie!!! :p
negative. the thermostat housing is on the other side of the block.
by other side, i mean towards the back. it is under the intake manifold, this bit is further forward

if correct +rep homie!!! :p
So since you were incorrect does that mean -rep? :p
I would try one of the names destrukshn suggested or just take the part down to the parts store and say 'I want one of these' :)

xb-16-ax:
you tell that, to 98% of parts stores and parts interpreters, and they will ask you, what? hahahaha.
i couldn't really call it a cover either, becuase it's not covering anything?
more like housing.

LOL ... ;)
u shouldnt have a problem when asking for a water outlet cover/housing.
but if the shops/wreckers dont know what it is then show and tell.. ha2
now wheres my rep point!! heheh j/k

Yeah it is, its covering a deep hole which radiator water flow into :p
housing is like the thermostat bell housing as its "housing" the thermostat itself.
check the service manuals - "cooling radiator/water pressure test" section. it shows and tells. :)
just my 48cents

LOL i broke that TWICE a few months back. I got quoted like 30-40 from honda shipped from japan. I just filled the gap in with "kneed it" i think its called. It just a cement mix and i put a bolt with some thread tape aswell. Been working fine so far, no leaks or anything.

thats why u never tighten them way too hard, especially if they are hot/cold.
just hand tighten them ...like handle with care :)

LOL twice mate? Learn from mistakes! hahha :p Well $30-40 doesn't seem too bad...guess I'll just bite the bullet. I'll try asking for "water outlet cover" but if they don't know wtf I'm talking about, then -1 rep for you XB-16-AX hahaha  kids.
Thanks for the help fellas.

I don't know what kind of car your amish cousin drives... But my car doesn't have any bell's where the thermostat is...
