I believe that my gearbox fluid is low, as i can sometimes get a slight grind noise in 3rd when shifting up. I looked at a few threads and this seems to be a common cause, so its worth a look i think. But I don't know where it is located to top it up (is there a resivoir or something?), and will i need any specific tools etc. or will i be able to just poor it in? Thanks

you shouldnt have to top up the fluid - it is non-depletive unlike engine oil etc.
You do have to flush the fluid every 40,000ks or under tho.

Have alook at this thread -

or take alook at another DIY filling thread -

So is it possible to fill through the VSS??

Cause i took mine out and i wasn't able to put it in through there?

It was a pain putting it in the side of the box but it FINALLY got in there lol.

yes, the VSS , once pulled OUT of the diff housing has a 2-3cm hole. Good size for a pipe to sit in. Thru the side is a pain , much easier in the way in my link above.

I pulled the VSS and couldn't see a hole.

Maybe there was a second section i needed to remove as well. It should have a gear on the end of it shouldn't it??

you might of pulled the wiring clip off the top ?
There is ONE 10mm bolt ot be removed on the side facing the rear engine mount - there is one two more but they are connecting the the lower part of the VSS.

Yes , the VSS is a unit , with a cog on the end. Once you pull this entire unit out , the hole in which it came from is accessible :)

Yeah thats what i did man. undid the bolts holding it unto the box and pulled it up and out of the box but the bottom half stayed in there. it wasn't just the wiring connector either cause the base where the bolts went through came off as well.

My speedo still works so the unit isn't farked. I'll have a closer look next time i change the tranny fluid.

I know what they look like cause i've changed a few gear boxes in my lifetime and have filled up other gear boxes from reverse light switches and speed sensor holes etc but i thought the honda one might have been different. Maybe mine is semi farked. We'll see.

you just took the upper half of the VSS off. No biggie - just look for the 10mm bolts, that connects the bottom half to the diff housing. This holts the VSS in...remove it , and the entire VSS will slide out.

why take out the VSS when u can just take off the rubber cap thingy on top of the box and u can fill it from there ..
