Hi hi
So I'm new. Nice forum you guys have here. Lots of interesting reads.
This is my first post and basically all I am going to be asking is, does anyone else out there have this model.
And if you do have this model what modifications have you had done.
Basically my car has no balls. No balls at all.
These are the mods I have planned.
Cold Air Intake with POD filter
Cat back exhaust.
I basically would like a bit more power at about the 2500, 3000 rpm range.
Any thoughts guys/
BTW was toying with the idea of a vti half cut and swapping engines.
Can anyone recommend somewhere in Sydney.
Im in the Sutherland Shire so any local place would be nice.
Cheers
Will

If you want good low rpm power then you are better of getting an Si Front Cut and put the D16A8 in. The Vti (1.6L SOHC VTEV) engine is good but it shines during VTEC when the revs are high. The D16A8 (1.6L DOHC non-vtec) shines more than the vti at low RPM, but not quite as much at high RPM.
Or if you have money to burn, drop a B16A or a K20A in :)
Or if you want to mod your current engine, get a full exhaust replacement and decent air intake, and get an aftermarket ECU and have it tuned.
Or you could get a low psi Turbo for around $5000+, more if you want to increase the PSI and strengthen the internals

Under $3000 for low psi for that engine

Thanks for the Help guys.
I think I might go with the D16A8 (1.6L DOHC non-vtec). High RPM is something I will most likely not be sustaining but having not driven a VTEC engine I am not sure I can say that with confidence.
My previous car was a 91 Mitsi LANCER GSR CB Hatch. Little 1.6 DOHC and that thing loved it at around 5000rpm and I loved the sound too with its tidy exhaust (2 1/2 inch) It scared quite a few of the big 6s into submission.
I would love to get that feeling again.
Would you recomend the D16A8 (1.6L DOHC non-vtec) or would you say go with a B16 or even a B18.
Money is not so much of an issue I have about 5 grand to play with but that does have to do some body work and wheels. Some dick backed into my car with a tray when I was not there and then had the decency to drive off and leave no evidence or note.
I will have more money as time goes on so wheels can wait.
If I do decide to go with the D16A8 (1.6L DOHC non-vtec) will I have to upgrade the breaks too to get an Engineers cert.
My car is actually a 1995 EG Civic GLi Special Addition.

Just a note to consider: your car is a 1995...all D16A (ZC engines) are only available for EG Civic Si model, which is older than ur car, see the details of the Si below:
Civic Si hatch
Body style 3-door hatch
On-sale dates Oct 1991 - Oct 1993
Engine 1,590cc DOHC 16 valve, 4-cyl EFI
Power / torque 96kW / 144Nm
Transmission 5-speed manual / 4-speed automatic (optional)
if i remember correctly, it's illegal to put an engine from an older model car to a newer model...so i guess the only choice u have is either do a D16Y1 conversion or a more punchy B16 or B18 (which costs much more)
edit: with ur 5 grand, u'll be able to get a B16 front cut easily:D

Thanks SydSyd
I saw that after reading those Civic help threads.
$5000 is nice but dont forget I need some body repairs as well, Im estimating around $1000 with painting.
What sort of power am I looking at with:
A full catback to a 2 /12 inch tip
Cold Air Intake with POD
Remap of ECU
I would think about 10-15 kw?
Which would push the engine to 93. Not so bad :D

mate go find a b16 or a b18 vtec car and go for a ride (make sure you or the driver warms it up and shows you the vtec crossover and listen to it howl like a banshee!).... vtec will change your life =)
they are good motors at low revs and hi revs, its like having a granny car (civic), sporty car (lancer style) + a race car (sounds like a F1 in vtec) all in one
if u can geta b16a or b18c(7) they will be ur most value for money and strongest platforms... u will also have a lot of fun pissing of v6 cars lol

I have decided I will go with a Cat Back Exhuast and Cold Air Intake with POD.
I dont have the money or the time at the moment to put the effort needed into a full enginge swap.
PLus teh insurance I think I would die.

just turbo the car
3000K and you'll be really quick you'll give ITR's a good go

That would be sweet SydSyd.
Turbo hey, that would require a shit load of internal work wouldnt it?
Not to mention a years worth of sexual favours to get the thing registered.
Anyone recomend some 16" rims for a gunmetal grey EG Sedan?
I was thinking either grey/black might suit, maybe even white?
What do u reckon?
Think I might put these on.

that looks pretty awesome dude... good choice !
but $1000 ? ouch .. better of goes for mods :p
Manifold
full exhaust system.
Lowered spring
C.A.I
that gives u more speed and power the place that u want to be ... 2k 3k rpm?
or save it up for some more
i still have my stock wheels on my car (cheap to change tyre and light) ;)
cloakedhonda
31-03-2007, 08:08 AM
Well I could still do all that and get the wheels.
I had hoped to have 5 grand to spend. But doesnt look like that will happen.
2000 though I can manage that.
I was thinking of getting it done at CV performance at Caringbah, anyone had any experience with them?

Can anyone point on where to go if I wanted to take it down the Forced Induction route.
And Wouldnt a supercharger give me better power at the ranges I want?
After doing a bit of research it seems if I grab a VTEC head (say like a Y8) and mate that onto my motor I would then be able to whack a whole list of Superchargers on there.
Supercharged though would require an upgrade to brakes for RWC or Engy cert yeah?

Pssssttt..... i tell u wat, put the boost as low as possible say .. 1 psi .. but must have a good boost controller...
soo... u will pass the RWC with out cahnging any thing cert :p
or u could just change the brake pads to a better 1

I went and poked my head around under the hood.
My car is an EG8 Manufactured in Feb 95 and has a D15B7 engine in it putting out a measly 74kW.
I am so disappointed :( Might sell it and just get a VTI.

How much can you get if you sell it? Look for cheap DC2 VTIRs.
BTW, CAI won't make much of a difference at 2500-3000rpm. :)

dont waste ur money buying i/h/e for your sohc.
its all a gimick, you'll still be slow with all those mods.
it might sound good (highly doubt it) but thats it.
it'll still be slow.
just turbo it . best bang for buck

sell the sedan get the hatch with b16a ... that sums out ur money :P

imo either go all out with forced induction or engine transplant or jus sell it and get a more performance oriented car. minor mods will just not get u very far so either settle for a minor performance increase and save ur money or commit to sumthing bigger and better :)

Unfortunately zelda is correct.
i had a sedan the same. was auto too :thumbdwn:
an engine swap or turbo is the only way with this car IMO.
i had an intake + exhaust, felt no different but did sound good.. but then it sounds good n goes like shit so u feel stupid.

That engines much older than the EG he was/is thinking of buying for starters. I couldnt image any D16A8's have only done 3000kms.
D-series is too slow for my liking, unless you build/turbo one. Just a intake, headers and exhaust wouldnt cut it for me when you can get a B-series for that slight extra money.
