HID kit for EK4?

Hi guys,

I am thinking to upgrade my headlight to HID on my EK4. But i am wondering if that would affect other people on the road. as I found some cheap H4 bi-xenon conversion kit.

How would you affect other road users? Have you ever been driving while the car behind you has their highbeem on? Or on coming traffic is driving with their highbeam on? It'd have the same effect as that, except you'd be on low-beam. The reason for this is because you'd be using HID's on reflector housings which have been designed for halogen lighting.

If you want to get the full benefits of HID's then it's best to use them with projectors. Research for "retro fitting HID's", basically it's using quality parts (bulb, ballast and projector) to fit HID's into a car that didn't have them as standard.

so what you are saying i shouldn't just go and get the HID kit and put in my EK4. unless i have upgraded the headlight unit?

you need a projector headlight to focus your light-beam. if not your HID will just like the high-beam which affecting other road user.

You need reflectors/projectors made for HID's, not just any headlight with projectors will do.

i looked on that hid website couldn't find a link to diy , can anyone post one up? to how to make for ek4

i frequent that forum and i'm impressed that so many ppl here bag out kits, good work :D

its not hard to do, u get headlights that preferably have a clear front lense, then you drill holes into the reflector assembly where they need to go to line up with the holes in the hid projector assembly you have, put through some screws, get somethign to cover up teh gaps and make it look nicer and your done, then u put some relays into the system so u dont take out ur electronics, a days work at the most really

saxman does some beautiful work, but its not hard to do it urself

back of headlights cut and screws put through, some people just destroy the lights the projectors are out of and glue on the relevant bits...i came across that site after i did my retro, and the way i came up with works fine and was prob easier - no drying time

finished light, well the aim is to put the indicator up the top bit of it, so not quite finished i guess...coudlnt find one that fitted good, but the new camry's look like their side indicator is the answer

and a shot of the difference...but this is vs sealed beam lights which suck more than h4...as you can see my headlight buckets prevent the lights being as wide as they could b. just remember that even if you have bi-xenons its best to still have some halogen high beams so u can flash people

best money i've ever spent on the car :D anyone know of a way to get some rhd stanley bi-xenons? i'm in need of an upgrade

yes yes yes - its been said and quoted above lol i know -

the point is IF you simply get a HID setup in normal headlights ( like a replacement bulb) there will be LOTS of scattered light and the illuminated area will be wider and less concentrated really. it will annoy the heck out of cars infront of you and to the sides too. Notice how cars with HID's are annoying only from the front on a ascent behind you ? they are the correct reflector/projector ro suit the HID setup :)
