ok guys,
i went to get my car fixed from a ding i got the other day at the panel beaters and out of curiousity i decided to get a quote to get my car colour coded. Ok, so what i asked to get done is:

All the mouldings around the sides, front and back for the car
A front ABS plastic lip
A Rear lip(i am looking out for one)
The two side skirts
The licence plate holder at the rear

My quote came too about $950. I am pretty sure i am getting ripped off, that was for them to do absolutely everything except attach the two lips. he said stuff about since the car being old, the moulds would need to be cleaned of the wax thorougly otherwise it would start coming off in a few months which i understand. the thing is, how hard is it for me to clean the mouldings etc? coz i know it would make it a fair bit cheaper if i cleaned it, took them off and just got them to paint it. i just need a guide as what can be done to reduce costs other than removing them myself....and cleaning them myself, its only the mouldings that need to be cleaned as you can see a bit of wax on it here and there, everything else is real clean. is the price he has given me realistic for what he would be doing?

sounds about right. a front bumper respray is like $300 or so.
u pay what u get yeh? pay less shit job.
or for $950 go buy urself a compressor n paint gun n paint and then paint it ur self ? :)

u can prob sand it down n primer it, to reduce some cost maybe.

How bad is the ding you have? Im guessing a lot of the cost is going to the actual repair. My friend got ek4 hatch spoiler removed (and holes welded and bumper sprayed), front bumper fixed and sprayed, and fender put back into shape and sprayed all for 400 bucks.

To save costs you could remove the moulds (hard) and prep them for him. Alternatively you could do it cheap by blocking off the area around the moulds and just spraying over them. Ive seen this done and it looks pretty good.

well for my lips ( front and rear) and skirts. I payed 35$ each lip and 45$ for each skirt. Then there was a mix and match cost and a booth hire for 45$.

so i payed 205$ to get mine done.

are the moulds hard to put back on after they have been painted? what type of prep can you do for it at home to save costs?

the molds are held on by clips.

so to put down cost. you can pull teh moulds of yourself and then put them back on.
