here is a question for those 'in the know' about tyres

my da9 came stock with 195/60/14's

i purchase some civic vti-r wheels with 195/50/15 tyres

it has come time to replace the front tyres (the back still have a little tread, but probly no more than 5000kms worth)

i SHOULD have 195/55/15's to keep the same rolling diameter, but this would mean different profile on front vs rear.

i am not particularly concerned by my speedo being off, as it is only a very smaller amount, and it shows me going faster than i actually am, so no risk of speeding fine

what are peoples thoughts on whether it would be better to replace the fronts with 50 or 55 profile tyres?

I'd just change fronts and rears together. But If you were to put new 55s on, you'll be creating a monster. If you start the switch to 50s now then it'll only be 5000kms (as you say) until you're running on nice new, proper o.d. tyres.

thanks for that, i understand that there will be a slight difference in height, what im really wondering is how noticeable this will be when driving

i had 55s on the rear with 50s in the front. I didnt notice a thing, except the back tyres were of much poorer quality (potenza gIII compared to some marshalls)

Well....since you will need to replace the rear tyres a couple of months later....it is a chance for you to go to 195/55 since it is closer to stock wheel size....
I will just get some good ones for the front and then fork out 100 bucks for a pair of lingong or dingdong or Wanli or whatever, for the rear to make them all 195/55....

though about buying 2nd hand tyres, till the back also run out of tread?

55's will be easier to find (thats why i ran 55s for a while). then when the backs are worn too, just replace all tyres. Personally, i prefer the thinner profile, if not for n e thing but looks, but they also supposedly have handeling benifits
